I heard Glenn's voice yell for me from the bottom of the guard tower. I peered over the left side to see him waving me down. I quickly grabbed my bag and made my way down the stairs. As I opened the door to exit the tower, Glenn helped push it open for me.
"Is your offer to help me still open?" He asked, with a sincere look on his face. I nodded with a smile. "Good, let's go then."
We both began to walk towards the silver colored truck that they had found. "What did you need my help with?" I asked, glancing up at him as I walked by his side.
"We couldn't find the breach in the tombs. I'm thinking it may be outside. Plus it'll be easier to find if it is outside." Glenn explained.
"True. Being in dark tunnels filled with walkers doesn't seem like the ideal situation when trying to find where they are coming from."
"Glenn!" Hershel's voice called out. We turned to see the old man hopping over towards on his crutches. He seemed to be on a mission to speak with the young man his daughter was so smitten with because of how fast he was hobbling.
"I'll wait for you in the truck." I stated, adjusting my bag's strap over my chest. After he nodded, I turn and continued over to the truck. I opened the door and placed my bag in the passenger floor board before hopping into the passenger seat myself.
Carl walked over after I settled into the seat. "Hey Em."
"Hi." I replied, "You going to try to stop me from going with Glenn?"
"No, actually I told him to take you. After what happened earlier, I feel like there's some things that you need to get settled. Plus, you would've volunteered once you saw that Glenn was going alone."
"How do you know that?" I asked, rhetorically.
He leaned against the door before leaning in and moving a strand of loose hair from my face. The action seemed to send chills down my spine, which left me wondering why. "Because I know you better than anyone else, Highlights." I didn't say anything as he stayed close to my face. After a moment of staring into my eyes, he pulled back, allowing me to try to breathe normally once again. "Just stay safe out there. And don't forget, you still owe me a talk later."
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak after being so close to him. I knew that I liked Carl, Beth got me to admit it, but I had never been this nervous around him. As Glenn got into the truck, Carl closed the passenger door for me before giving me a small wave. I returned as Glenn started the engine and started to drive away.
I leaned my head against the window as we waited for Carl to open the gates for us to leave. Carl gave one final wave as Glenn drove through the opening. I watched as the boy, who had grown to have feelings for closed the gates that kept us separated us from the walkers.
For the most part of our ride, Glenn was quiet. I watched the trees and overgrown bushes fly past us as we rode down the dirt road that led away from the prison. "Did you mean what you said earlier?" I looked over at Glenn confused, but kept my head leaning against the window. "About me being an asshole? Having my head in my ass?"
