"You can't stop me."

"Rick would never allow this."

"You really think he's in any position to make that choice?"

The bickering was beginning to edge its way onto my nerves as I sat on the table watching Glenn sketch a plan of getting  revenge on the Governor. I blocked out the sounds of argument and thought back on what I had previously learned earlier today.

My heart hurt as I thought about my mother's secret. Once I had read the first entry in her journal, I bury it in my backpack. I didn't want to read it anymore. I could have been with my biological father all along, but instead I was forced to live with a stranger all because of her. How could she have done this to her own daughter? Was I the mistake? Why did she lie?

"Who's on watch? Damn it." Glenn's angered voice brought me back to reality. He slammed his hand on the ground causing me to jump. I had never seen him this angry before. He had always been so quiet, but now he was taking on the role of leader since Rick was incapable, Daryl was gone, and Hershel was crippled. He stormed out of the room to see if there was anyone on watch, but clearly there wasn't.

I let out a huff of air before sliding my bottom onto the tabletop behind me. Everyone dispersed after Glenn took off. Most of them resumed their small duties while others just found something to do.

"Hey, Em." Carl stopped in front of me. His face held a stern look, so I knew an order was coming. He had begun to show leadership in a way that Rick does. "I'm going to go on watch, so Glenn can stop worrying over that. Carol's coming with me, so will you keep close to Judith and Beth?"

I nodded, which pleased him as he returned it and led Carol out of the cell block. I sighed as I looked down at the journal beside me. As everyone dispersed, Hershel hobbled over to the table I was sitting on. "May I sit down with you for a spell? Maybe you can tell me what's on that mind of yours." He said, as he sat down on the bench connected to the table.

"How do you know something is on my mind?" I asked, watching him as he neatly leaned his crutches on the table.

He pointed to the journal with a knowing smile. "You were staring at the cover of that thing the entire time Glenn and Carl were discussing where the breach could be in the tombs. Want to talk about it?"

I shrugged my shoulders as I stared down at the book in my hands. "Can you keep a secret for now?" I glanced over to him to see him nod and place a hand on mine. I stared him in the eyes as I revealed the truth that I had just recently learned. "Daryl is my father."

Hershel stayed quiet for a moment as he processed what I said. "It's right here in my mom's journal. Apparently after she died, he took it and he has been hiding the truth from me this entire time. And what makes everything worse is that he gave it to Rick to give to me, and then he left. Now I just.. I don't know who I am anymore."
