I was with Hannah Kate, having an old fashioned sleepover. We hadn't had one in a while, and we both really needed. "What is this feeling so sudden and new?" I sang, holding a hairbrush to my mouth. "I felt the moment, I laid eyes on you?" She sang back.
"My pulse is rushing."
"My head is reeling."
"My face is flushing."
"OH WHAT IS THIS FEELING?!"
We were signing at the top of our lungs to the Wicked soundtrack. I was Glinda and she was Elphaba. I could sing a little higher then she could, so our parts were obvious. We were dancing like idiots, that is till Emily yelled at us to be quiet. We were sitting on my bed, breathing heavily. "So, how's the Jimmster?" She cast her gaze downward. "I think he may be cheating on me." I jumped up from the bed. "Whaaaa?!?!?! No way!!" She nodded solemnly. "Yeah, I think so. If I'm correct he's going out with her tonight. Chik-Fil-A." I scoffed. "Girl if that's his idea of a date you are better off." I retorted. She blushed. "I really like him though. I may even love him." I gasped. "Then we're going to Chik-Fil-A. Tonight." She made eye contact with me. "Say what woman?" I smiled mischievously. "Help me find any of my black clothes. We're staking out."
When we finished, I was in a black tank top and black jeans. A black beanie hair and fingerless gloves. HK was in similar attire. "Let's do this." I said. She played with her hands. "I'm not sure I feel comfortable doing this." She said. "Too bad. Let's go get chicken!" I yelled, throwing my fist into the air. A smile broke onto her face.
We ran downstairs. "Hey Em! We're going to go stake out!" I yelled. "K! Don't shoot anyone!" She shouted. We ran out the door and to my car. "She just lets you leave?" Hannah Kate asked. "Yeah. She's used to me yelling random things when I leave." She shrugged. "Fair enough." We got into my car and I pulled out our equipment. "Binoculars, and... another set of binoculars." I said. Her face dropped. "That's all you brought?" I raised an eyebrow and reached in my back seat. "I also have a baseball bat." I pulled it into view. She gave me a weird look. "Why do you have a baseball bat in your back seat?" I shrugged. "You can never be too prepared. What if I get mugged? Or there's an unexpected piñata?" She rolled her eyes and I started the car. "Let's go stalk people!" She laughed as we drove off.
"Okay we're here." I said as I pulled the key from the ignition. "Look! There's his car!" She pointed to a black truck. "He must be inside! Let's go hide in a bush!" She grabbed my shoulder with a shocked look on her face. "What?! Are you crazy?! You're insane!" I scoffed. "No. I'm Katie. You should know this." She put her head in her hands. "You're so hopeless." I put binoculars in her hands. "To the bush." She wouldn't take her head out of her hands. "HK, bring me a shrubbery!!!!!!" She looked up at me and smiled at my Monty Python quote. "Let's go!" I got out and pulled her out afterwards.
"The secret to a perfect stakeout is silence." I said. "Then shut up!" She whispered. We were actually in a bush, behind Chik-Fil-A, holding binoculars, looking like idiots. "Do you see him?" She asked. Just then some couple walked past, eyeing us. "Move along!" I shouted, pointing towards the door. I looked for Jimmy. "Yes!!! He's sitting against the wall. Ow! Thorn!" I whisper/shouted, plucking a branch from my thigh. "I see him! He's sitting with a girl! Whoa...." She said. "What?! What?! What do you see?!" I asked frantically, searching. "He's on a date. With an.... 8 year old. Didn't think he would ever do that." She mumbled. Then it all clicked. He told me he had a little sister. I peered at the girl. Almost exactly the same, except female. My eyes widened. "HK!!!!!!!" I yelled. She jumped. "What?!" I shook her shoulders, causing the bush to rustle. "THAT'S HIS SISTER YOU NITWIT!!!!" I shook her so much we fell out of the bush and onto the sidewalk, a big jumble of limbs. We looked up and saw the man of the hour. "Oh! Hey Jimmy! How's it hanging?" I asked, Hannah Kate's arm draped over my face. "Katie? Hannah Kate? What's going on?!" He cried. I pushed her arm off my face, but my leg was completely under her. "Oh nothing you need to be concerned about." I responded, pulling a branch from my hair. His sister appeared. "You have weird friends Jim." He put a hand on her back. "Ain't that the truth." She giggled. "Girls this is Jamie. Jamie, girls." He said. "Hey." HK said. "Sup bro." I commented. I pushed her completely off of me. "So, why don't you two have a little date? Just you and HK." I said to him. "What about Jamie?" I waved that off. "I'll take her home." He smiled, liking the idea. He bent down to meet his sisters eyes. "Katie's going to take you home now. Okay?" "What about you? What about strangers?" She asked in her tiny voice. "Don't worry about me. I'm just going on a date. As for the stranger..." He met my eyes. "I trust her with my life. Go on." He said, pushing her towards me. "Aw! That means a lot Jimmster. Won't let you down!" I called as I ushered her to my car. "Wait! I'm not wearing the proper clothes! I don't know what we're doing! What if I'm not prepared?! What if..." "HK!" I interrupted. She looked at me. "Have fun." I called. She sighed and glared at me. "That's the spirit! Bye!!!!" I yelled.
"So... What are your hobbies?" Really? That's the best thing you can ask an 8 year old?! Uhhh. "That other girl is really pretty." She said instead. I nodded. "She is." Jamie looked at her nails. "Prettier then you." I was taken aback by the comment, but tried to bounce back. "Well... Uh... Yeah. That's true, but you could be nicer about it." She just glared at me, then looked out the window. All of a sudden, she squealed at the top of her lungs. I cried out and swerved into the other lane, quickly returning to the right lane, and steadied the wheel. "What in the wide world of sports was that?!?!" I cried. "Starbucks! Can we go?! PLEASE!" I glanced at her, eyes wide. "Dude you're like 8! And it's already 9 o'clock. That's a no go." She looked at me, then broke into a big tantrum. She pounded her fists on the dash and started screaming like her life depended on it. A car went around me and saw what was happened. The driver gave me a look, and I just pretended I didn't see them. "Look! You can't just break into a tantrum! If anything that will lessen your chances of getting Starbucks you little twit."
"Yes that will be all." I said into the Starbucks speaker. Jamie had a smug look on her face. I wanted to punch her, but I'm pretty sure I'd go to jail. She received her coffee and drank happily. "You just wait you smug little demon." I muttered. "What was that?" She chirped. "Oh nothing." I responded, wanted to beat my head onto the steering wheel.
