Katie's POV

I watch in disappointment as he walks down the street. Just before he's out of sight, he turns back and seems to look back at me. I smile, even though he's not here to see it. I walk to my bed satisfied with that, and drift off to a dreamless sleep.

I awake and automatically know, it's a girl day. After school, it was me and HK all the way. As if she knew what was going on, HK ran up to me in a surprised hurry. "Oh my googly goo is it true?" "Googly goo?" She grunts. "Your avoiding the question!" She exclaims. I hold my hands up. "Okay, slow down. I always talk weird but you only do it when your excited. What's the question?" She takes a deep breath. "Ok, are you really going out with Jake?" My cheeks flushed. "W-What? Pfft, no not at all. What are you talking about? What do you mean? Stop asking me questions!" I blab. She smiles knowingly. "My place or yours?" I put my head down in defeat. "Mine." She nods and runs off to her next class.

I shake my head and go towards the hallway. Something was different. Usually people tended to their knittin, (Southern saying, means minds their own bees wax) but I was being watched, by everyone. The hall literally went silent as I walked. You could hear my tennis shoes hitting the tiled floor as I went through. I kept my head down and pretended not to notice. Eventually, people tried to cover up the silence with small talk, but I knew they were all staring at me. At my locker, they finally seemed to engage in actual conversation with one another. I heard the click of high heels coming down the hall and stop quite near me. There's some whispering, and a very loud, "Her?" I whip around to see Violet and her "posse". "Um, can I help you with something?" I ask. She scans me slowly, her lips in full on pucker mode. "Well, she's innocent. That must be what he's after. Other than that what does he see on her? She's not even pretty."

Her minions snicker. I just look at the floor. "Your right Vi. She doesn't stand up for herself." Says Mallory, I think. I turn around and shut my locker. She wasn't worth it. I told myself this so I wouldn't feel like a coward. I try to avoid her, but her hand flies up and almost slaps me across the face. With my quick reflexes, I quickly block it and hold her wrist. Fear sparks in her eyes as she can't escape from my grasp. She pulls hard, but my grip remains. I was finished. "I'm done with you Violet. I don't care what you say, only what Jake says. So, back off!" I shove her away from me and storm off. Luckily not to many people were watching. I hear something whirring through the air. I turn around to block it, but someone beat me to it. Jake. His face is red with anger and his teeth are beared.

His hand is holding the ankle of the leg that almost hit me in the head. "Don't come near her ever again." He growls. The same look of fear returns to her eyes as she nods quickly. He releases her and she scurries off as fast as her heels will let her. I look at him gratefully. The halls were empty now. He's trying to calm down for my sake, but he can't help but punch a locker, almost leaving a dent. "I can't believe her. She just... Ahh!" He punches again, this time leaving a slightly evident mark. I needed to calm him. "Look at me." I say. He ignores me and tries to throw another, but I block it. He seems shocked at first, but his anger covers it quickly. I cup his face with my hands and force him to look at me. He scans every part of my face except my eyes. His anger was still very evident. "Look at me." I order again. The instant he looks me in the eyes his temper softens. I put a look of comfort and calmness in my eyes, and he seems to lose his anger. After a few minutes of trying to calm him down without words, it works. The sweat beads on his forehead were gone.

After I smile at him, he crumples. He puts his forehead on my shoulder and pulls me into his chest. "I'm sorry Katie. I didn't mean to lose my temper. I'm just, I'm sorry." He says. I rub his back reassuringly. "It's alright. Your okay. It's alright." I pull away from him and he seems almost normal now, brown eyes twinkling back at me. "Ok?" He groans. "No. We will NOT be a Fault in Our Stars couple." I laugh out loud. This laugh seems to unwind him, and soon he's laughing along with me. "Thank you. Your laugh is beautiful." I snort. "I wish." My laugh was really loud and not pretty at all. "To me it is. Most girls just have a small giggle, and won't laugh at their full volume around guys. I think it's adorable." I scoff. He raises an eyebrow. "Didn't you just tell that witch that only what I said mattered to you?" I blushed. "Maybe." He smiles. He kisses my forehead and walks into the hallway.

"HK!" I exclaim. I pull her in and rush to my room. "My parents and sister are out buying clothes for Emily. Amanda's at college of course." I drag her up the stairs and put her in my room and slam the door. She's out of breath. "You... seem... excited." She says in between breaths. "I need to talk to someone, BADLY!" I exclaim. So I let it out. Every feeling, every emotion, every single thing that's happened between me and Jake. And I know she's listening. She's a hopeless romantic. At the end, she smiles. "Feel better?" I nod. "Thoughts?" She taps her chin. "I think your a match made in heaven, and that you'll be together forever." I roll my eyes, but I'm smiling. She always knows what to say. "Now, Spongebob movie or chick flick?" We look at each other. "Both!" We exclaim at the same time. We laugh as I rush to my movie cabinet. I needed this.

We're sitting on my bed, crying as Sweet Home Alabama(Southern Movie) ended with the movie lines, "Why would you wanna marry me?" "So I can kiss you whenever I want." Through tears, she says, "It's clever because those were the beginning lines." I roll my eyes, wiping away the tears. "Yeah, I got that." She pushes me slightly. "Oh stop being your smart allically self." I smile. I felt much better.
