Just my luck, Emily doesn't spill. Thank The Lord Jesus almighty who sits in heaven! When I thought this, I smiled, knowing exactly what Jakes reaction would be. Then I frowned. Everything was awkward between us. It's been two days since the incident, and the end of my two weeks is in 3 days. It was sad. I was in my room, laying on my back on the floor while throwing a baseball up in the air and catching it. I was thinking, he hasn't spoken to me since, not even a nudge in the ribs or an arm around the shoulders. Just then, my phone vibrates. I take a peek, and my heart skips a beat.

Jake: Thwack!

Me: Um, what is that supposed to be?

Jake: A virtual stick hitting your window.

Me: ; )

Jake: Do we need to talk, because I feel like we need to.

Me: Um okay. Only if you want to.

Jake: Cool, I have some questions...

Me: Before you do that, I think this should happen in person.

Jake: That's sounds even better. So when I get there, should I have my own stash of sticks or...

Me: Just send a virtual one. ; )

Jake: Ok, see you then.

Me: Ok.

I lay my phone on my heart and focus on my breathing. I don't want to focus on what just happened. I was excited and frightened and emotions were everywhere. I was, content per say. Emily bust into my room. "What are you doing?" I picked up the baseball. "Playing a game of catch with myself." She rolls her eyes. "You are so weird." I smiled. You betcha I was weird. Dinner went off without a hitch, and at 9:00 I said goodnight to my parents and bolted up the stairs. I sat there patiently, checking my phone every 5 minutes. At 11:00, I dozed off.

Some vibrating jolted me awake. The time, 11:30 pm. I looked at my phone and smiled.

Jake: Thwack

Thwack

Thwack thwack thwack thwack

Katie if you don't answer me I'm throwing real sticks.

Me: I'm here, just dozed off. Maybe try coming at 9:30 next time.

Jake: ok, I'll just leave and come back tomorrow at 9:30...

Me: NO!

Jake: I knew you couldn't resist me.

Me: : ( You tricked me. : p Whatever, I'm on my way down.

Jake: : )

I open my window and see a smug face illuminated by the light of a phone. He hears me and looks up, motioning for me to come down. I do my little thang, jump off and land right beside him. At least, that's where I aimed. Instead of beside, it was more on top... Of him. I landed on him with a big "Umph!" We lay there for a second, Jake chuckling a bit. "Ok, that worked better the last time." I lift my head up from his collar bone where my head has smacked against, and look at him. "Ya think? Because I think it went better this time." He smiled. "Why, because it's an excuse to get close to me?" My mouth dropped. "W-What? N-No, it's called sarcasm." He smirked. "Your stutter says different." My cheeks blazed, which caused him to bust out laughing. "It's okay. It's cute to watch you do that." I averted my eyes. I stared at the collar of his shirt, crumpled a bit from me still being on top of him. Wait, I was still on top of him! "Oh! I'm sorry! Let me get off!" I put my hands on the opposite sides of his head and begin to push off him. I'm stopped by two strong arms wrapping around me and pulling me back down.

"Nooo." He whines like a child. "Oh come on, you know you wanna stay like this." Though it was insulting a small smirk crept it's way on my face, but just for a second, and then it's replaced with a glare. We stay like this for a bit, me scowling and him smirking while keeping his strong football arms around my waist. "Fine." He says in defeat, untangling his arms. I smile, and push myself up happily. I brush myself off and when he stands and looks at me, I smile as wide as I can. He rolls his eyes and slips his arm around me. He starts walking towards town and I lean my head against his shoulder. It was cold out, and I was in a t-shirt while he was in a very warm jacket. I snuggled a little closer. "So, what did you need to ask?" I question, craning my head to look at him. "Well, I have a really important one, but it's kinda embarrassing." I nudge him with my elbow and he looks down at me and smiles. "We're best friends right? Ask me anything." His light brown eyes twinkle. He takes a huge breath, let's it out, and the question came after. "When your sister caught us, you said it was just a kiss, no big deal. Was it really JUST a kiss, or were you trying to get her off your back?"

Oh. My gaze went to the sidewalk in front of me as I tried to figure out what to say. Just answer truthfully, my heart told me, so I mumbled. "It was just to get her off my back." "What?" He asks, edging closer. "It was just to get her off my back." I mumble a little louder. "What?" This was getting frustrating. "IT WAS MORE THAN JUST A KISS TO ME OKAY?!" I yell. I quickly cover my mouth. Luckily, there are only street lamps to hear me. "And I mean, it wasn't even technically a kiss, right?" I asked. It was true, I didn't know what a real kiss was supposed to feel like, so how should I know? He smiled. "Right. Most kisses are more passionate." We walk for a little bit, and the question just pops out. "What about you?" "Hmm?" He replies. "Was it more than JUST a kiss for you?" I ask, putting emphasis on just. He didn't look at me, only at the road ahead. He smiled slightly. "What would you do if it wasn't?" My mouth dropped. He didn't feel the same way. I just told him it meant more to me and he doesn't feel the same way.

"I-I'm so embarrassed. I should of known you didn't feel the same way. Why would you, football star Jake who can get any girl he points at, like a girl like me? Im so sorry Jake, I..." I'm cut off with him pressing his lips against mine. Much more firm than the last time. I'm smiling through the kiss and I can tell he is too. He pulls away wearing the dopiest smile. I grin slightly. "Got you." He says, grinning like an idiot. I lightly smack his arm. "You scared the heck out of me. I thought you didn't feel the same way." We begin walking again. "Who said I did? Maybe I just like kissing girls." I glared. "I'm not falling for it again." He snaps his fingers. "Man I thought that would work." "Well, it's kinda hard to trick somebody after something like that happens." I reply. He smiles and says, "I knew it would mean something. Right from the moment I leaned down to right now, it meant something. That something grew over these past two days when I hadn't talked to you at all. It drives me nuts not spending time with you."

His arm tightened around me. I was smiling like a goof ball at that. "If it makes you feel better I was to the point of tearing my hair out at the tension between us. I'm glad we broke it." I look up at him and show my smile. He leans down and kisses the tip of my nose. "Me too." I feel him take a deep breath and stop walking. He let's go of me and steps in front of me. "There's something I want to ask you." My breath hitched. "Okay." I squeaked. He got down on one knee and looked me dead in the eye. "Kathryn Rose Schwab, will you go out with me?" I wiped my hand across my forehead. "Phew! I thought you were actually going to propose!" He smiled and stood up from his "take a knee" position. He envelopes me in his arms and gazed down at me. "So since it's NOT a marriage proposal, is it a yes?" I smiled. "Of course it's a yes! I wouldn't of kissed somebody I didn't want to go out with!" He smiles, and kisses me. I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss back. He has one arm around my waist, while his other hand is cupping my cheek. When we pull back, we both gaze into each others eyes, and laugh. Life was good again.
