Chapter 99- 'Responsible'

Ro's POV

It was the next day and Jasper was still insufferably smug, going on about how his mate had an even rarer shift than mine, it didn't seem to matter that it was his brother, or that Jasper and Cyrus weren't mated yet.

Nobu looked about ready to shove him in that poor bush again as we walked to school.

Lukas seemed to be enjoying the brisk January air as he walked a little ways behind his bickering children.

The reason he'd been on his phone in his office so long yesterday was that he was arranging to work from home a more. He still needed to go to work for certain meetings and such and wasn't receiving a pay cut or something, but it meant he could be at home a lot more, which I think will ease quite a lot of his worry knowing he'd be there if anything happened.

It was a relief for me as well.

Lukas was someone I looked up to and having him around more often would reduce my stress levels, not just because of Liam but becoming a father myself, I wouldn't lie I was freaking the fuck out on the inside and knowing I could just knock on his office door if I needed his advice was a load off my shoulders. He was also someone else at home who would protect Nobu and our unborn cubs and I know he'd do his utmost to mitigate the times Nobu would be vulnerable without putting him under house arrest, and I knew he could do that a lot better at home.

Ehno was still in ultra-protective mode and I could feel him constantly scouring our surroundings for possible dangers and it left me on edge. He felt coiled tight like a bungee rope around Nobu as well, watching him carefully in case he lost his footing, ready to shoot forward and catch him in a moment's notice. To be honest it was driving me nuts and I got the feeling he'd wrap Nobu in bubble wrap if he could.

'That's actually not a bad id-'

'And how exactly are you going to convince Nobu to walk around wrapped in bubble wrap?' I cut in and he grumbled, knowing I was right.

It was still strange that I could talk to my Jaguar now, sometimes I'd forget and then he'd just start speaking to me and I'd be too stunned to respond straight away.

Nobu's and Jasper's bickering was progressively getting worse, which wasn't surprising, but I'd noticed he'd gotten more confrontational lately, he was giving as good as he got and despite how frustrated Jasper seemed to be getting it was obvious he was enjoying getting Nobu so riled about something so stupid.

"It is so not not important! Think about it! With Cyrus as my mate I could get any job I like and still get paid the big bucks." Jasper exclaimed and rubbed his thumb against his other four fingers and Nobu batted it away when it got too close to his face.

"Your so fucking shallow Jasper." Nobu bit out quite harshly and his brother flinched, obviously surprised at the venom in Nobu's voice.

I wasn't though, Nobu hated a mate's shift being used for political gain and as a way to get a leg up in life. I agreed it was wrong to use and flaunt your mate's shift to get ahead and it was something I'd never do to Nobu and the thought had never crossed my mind since mating with him, or even before.
