Chapter 16- Database

"Mums going to be so happy." Emelia beamed with a bounce in her step and I groaned at the thought.

"My ears are going to be ringing for days." I complained and Jasper scoffed out a laugh. We reached home and all walked into the sitting room and Otto disappeared upstairs to put some clothes on.

"Oh mum!" Emelia called in a sing song voice and I shuffled closer to Ro, he wrapped an arm around my waist and I purred in thanks for the support. She rushed into the room.

"What is it dear?" she asked and Emelia smirked at us.

"Go on Nobu." she urged and I let out a breath.

"Umm... I've come of age mum an-" the rest of my sentence was cut off my loud, piercing squeals and I winced at the sharp sound.

"Mum!" Emelia called. "He's not finished." she informed her and mum went quiet again but was bouncing on her toes and fidgeting, not able to stand still from her excitement.

"I can see aura's now mum and..." I looked up at Ro and smiled a little.

"What colour?" she demanded to know, grasping onto my upper arms and getting close.

"Forest green." I murmured and the squeals were even louder than before and she bounced and danced around the room, I sent Ro a look and he was chuckling at the sight of my mum.

"Shift my baby, I want to see you." she declared as she danced. I pulled away from Ro and tugged off my clothes as I shifted. It felt a little slower than before and I could feel my body morphing, the bones shifting and the hairs sprouting from my skin. I shook out my thick fur and found that the world looked a little smaller since I last shifted. I looked down at myself and my large paws were even bigger. I looked up at everyone and mum had finally quietened down and silent tears spilled down her cheeks and a smile was on her face. "Look at my baby." she cooed in a sniff and bent down to cup my head in her hands. "All grown up." she sniffed and I licked the tears from her cheek and she laughed a little. She pulled away and wiped her cheeks dry. "Go and see Nobu." she told me and gestured in the direction of a mirror we had in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs and I padded over.

I was fully grown now, my baby fluff gone, replaced with adult fur, my limbs powerful and strong, long tail thick and bushy. My facial features more defined and like in my human form my senses were heightened, but even more in this form. I went back to the front room and mum was crying into Otto's chest and I tilted my head in confusion and called out to her. She pulled away a little. "I'm sorry Nobu, it's just...(sob)...your father and I have to call up the shifter council, parents have to do that when their children come of age, we have to tell them what you are." she revealed.

"Remember when Jasper and I turned eighteen?" Otto asked and I nodded. "Do you remember female shifters knocking at our door?" he pushed and I nodded again, I do remember that, never knew why though, I was carted off into another room with Emelia when they visited. I'd asked what it was about but was never told. "The shifter council allow those who pay a large sum of money to look at the database that stores all of the living shifters in the world. Those women that came were from all over the world Nobu, they came to see us as we had rare shifts, they wanted to see if we were a match." he divulged and I knew what was coming. Once I had been put on that database, male shifters would come here and see if I was suitable for them, me being such a rare shift and a cross at that would attract lots of attention. I yowled quietly and went over to Ro. I jumped up and placed my paws on his shoulders and rubbed our cheeks together. I wanted Ro, no one else, all these rich shifters would come to look at me, those who hold status in high regard, I could imagine the way they would look at me, like a possession or a very rare and valuable object. I cried into Ro's neck, yowling and whining. Ro was my agape, I had my mate, why did they have to come?
