Nobu's POV

I wanted to scream but I couldn't even manage to whisper. My heart seemed to beat along with Ro's, the beeping deafening in my ears. I saw how his eyes finally closed, felt his body go lax against me, heard the heart monitor flat-line.

I'd seen enough hospital scenes on tv shows to know what that meant.

Ro was gone...

Dead...

My throat burned, my vision completely blurred from the torrent of tears spilling from them. My heart seized in my chest... I couldn't breathe.

It felt like I was drowning, suffocating inside my own body.

'B...ite...' Eidolon gasped out in my head, like he couldn't take a breath either.

Bite? What could he mean?

'Bite... Ro" he forced out before going quiet, his presence in my mind slowly fading away. He was dying, like I was, we couldn't live without Ro, we were bound together, my heart needed his to beat, my lungs needed his to breathe, he was the air in my lungs, the blood in my veins, whatever it was that made me alive, he'd taken it with him.

What did Eidolon mean? What would biting Ro do?

I didn't know but what have I got to lose?

My muscles screamed at me as I tried to move, lacking the oxygen they needed to function, my body felt so heavy. My head felt fuzzy and muddled, my brain slowly dying. My head dropped onto his shoulder and I felt my snow leopards sharp canines descend.

My chest felt like it was going to explode, the pressure building from the need to breathe getting unbearable.

My heart felt like it had been torn to shreds, I felt such consuming loss, and I used it to force my body to move.

I managed to lift my head, It trying to lull, my neck struggling to take its weight. I let it drop, opening my mouth and clamping my jaws around his shoulder, my teeth sinking into his cooling flesh.

Electricity surged from within me, injecting into Ro like venom in my fangs. His body jerked against mine as if he'd been struck by lightning.

...

Beep

...

...

Be-beep

...

Beep-beep

...

Beep-beep

The tension in my chest disappeared and I sucked in a desperate breath, my lungs burning painfully, stars dancing behind my eyes.

All the energy in my body seemed to of left me and I slumped against Ro, the soothing sound of his steady heartbeat sounding from the monitor as I lost consciousness.

Ro's POV

Slowly the sound of steady beeping reached my ears, the quiet sounds in the far distance. It smelt sterile, a mix of strong cleaners and disinfectants harsh to my nose. Light hit my closed eyelids, turning my vision red.

Was I dead?

I remembered hearing my heart monitor flat-line, feeling my body turning numb and darkness consuming me.

If heaven or hell existed I highly doubted it would smell like a hospital.

Plus, as I became aware of my body I could feel the sheets covering my dressed body, the clothing feeling loose and thin. My left side was a lot warmer than the rest of me, the weight of something on me. From the smell it couldn't be anyone other than Nobu, the citrus and sweet smell helped sharpen my senses and ground myself in my body.
