At noon, Gabriel and Eden left the bookshop to get themselves and Eden's parents a bite to eat. "So what do you think your parents would like for lunch today?" Gabriel asked. Aziraphale and Crowley had said to "surprise them."
"Well, we haven't had Greek in awhile…." Eden began "But I'm craving Shepherd's Pie…"
"We can get a little of both Edie." Gabriel felt his heart swell when Eden smiled. "Brilliant idea. Why didn't I think of that?"
"Aw look." Eden pointed to a couple with two small children. Twins. "Aren't those kids cute?" The kids in question looked at least a year old. One boy and one girl. "Yeah, they sure are." Gabriel replied.
"Although they're not as cute as my godson of course." Eden added matter of factly. "Or Magnolia and little Agnes."
"True." Gabriel concurred.
After a few moments of walking in blissful silence, Eden said, "I wish it was possible for us to have a child…."
Gabriel gazed at her sadly. The chances of them having their own child was impossible. Sure, her parents had been able to have her, but that was truly a miracle considering the circumstances. Although of the same stock, angels and demons were still quite different.
Gabriel wrapped an arm around Eden's waist. "I wish it too." He rasped as he pecked her on the cheek.
"You would be a wonderful mother." Eden shrugged.
"And you a wonderful father…." Gabriel shrugged then laughed when Eden stroked his beard. "Stoppit."
"No. You know you love it." Eden replied as Gabriel grinned back at her.
At least they had each other and that's all that matters.
But both of them couldn't fully ignore the deep ache in their chest as they continued on their way.
