"I like her." Eden said as Gabriel helped her to lay back onto the small bed. "She's very nice."

"Yes." Gabriel replied. "But I don't like this."

"What don't you like about this?"

Gabriel gestured to the strange technology around him. "Is all this technology even necessary? I mean, we really don't need to be here. We can already sense that the baby is strong and healthy." Eden knew that Gabriel was just putting on an act. He had been looking forward to this ultrasound for weeks.

Gabriel clasped Eden's hand as she replied. "You saw the childbirth posters didn't you?"

Gabriel nodded sullenly and rasped. "Is that what's going to happen to you? It looks so painful…."

Before Eden could answer,  the door opened and the doctor stepped in.

The doctor was in her early thirties with pale blonde hair with a kind face. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Archer. Congratulations. Nurse Jane told me that this is your first. How exciting,  you must be very proud Mr. Archer."

Gabriel nodded as the doctor continued. "I'm Dr. Jones and I'll be taking care of you today, so we're doing the ultrasound, is that correct?"

"Yes please!" Eden replied. Gabriel was obviously too nervous to talk so Eden stepped in.

"Is your, husband, is it?" When Eden nodded, Dr. Jones continued, "Okay?"

"He's very nervous." Eden explained quickly. "He's not used to doctor offices or the like and he saw the childbirth posters for the first time."

"Ah." Dr. Jones nodded. "Then we'll make this as quick as possible shall we? Are you comfortable my dear?" Eden nodded and so the doctor continued. "Lift up your shirt for me if you please." The doctor put on some latex gloves and dipped a gloved hand into a small plastic canister filled with transparent gel. When the doctor turned back to Eden,  she gasped at the sight of the long, jagged scar on Eden's belly.

"Oh my, how on Earth did that happen?" Gabriel tensed at the question.

"Oh, that." Eden replied. "I got hurt during a fight a few years ago but I'm all better now, right Gabe?"

Gabriel squeezed Eden's hand even tighter as he rasped. "Yeah, all better."

The doctor could tell from their expression's that this couple had been through a lot. "You poor things…."

Dr. Jones tried to find a spot on Eden's stomach where there wasn't scar tissue but the scar covered a significant amount of her midsection, to be specific, right in the center, pretty much the only place where she could scan her patient.

"Doctor,  it's okay." Eden finally said. "You can put the gel on my scar. I know that's where that scanner thingy needs to be so you can get a decent reading."

"It's cold." Eden flinched when the doctor finally applied the gel.

"Sorry." Dr. Jones said apologetically when the gel was finally applied. "Okay, now we can begin with the scanning."

Gabriel tensed when Dr. Jones whipped out a strange looking device connected to a thin rubber hose that was connected to the odd computer monitor.

"What is that?" Gabriel demanded.

"It's the scanner." Dr. Jones answered patiently.

"It won't hurt her will it?" Gabriel asked. "I wasn't informed that this procedure would be painful…"

"It won't hurt at all. It's a camera that will let you see your baby."

Gabriel watched,  still tense as the doctor gently pressed the strange device against Eden's stomach. "Now, if you keep your eyes on the sonogram screen,  you can see this gray area is the inside of your womb Mrs. Archer and those little blobs are your little ones. I see at least three. Looks like you're having triplets, triple congratulations to you both!"

"Triplets? Really?" Eden gasped. "Gabriel, we're going to have more than one baby! Gabriel?"

Gabriel suddenly collapsed onto the floor in a heap.
