•Thank U Aunties•
the summer of 1990
black girls with their long acrylics nails
straight or curved
with rings on every other finger
their hair pressed down, up, sideways
don't matter
just know, it was slayed and laid
silver and gold teeth
saw it when they smiled bright
face turned up to the sun
and their melanin shining brighter than all the jewelry they had on
now that's what i call auntie
thank u auntie
for paving the way for all of us
even the ones that culture appropriate
it was only 1
only 1 group of women that created the style and did it correctly
the others were just imposters
clones, frauds
but we all know where it originated from
thank u for your fearlessness and fashionable iconic style
to all the aunties
