I heard a thump when I was not even halfway down the stairs. I ran faster down the stairs, almost falling down the steps. I ran towards Mia's unconscious body laying in the grass. I put my fingers against her neck, making sure there was a pulse. Thankfully there was a pulse. A small wave of relief washed over me then. She was alive, just unconscious. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and dialed 000 (911 for Americans).

"000, what's your emergency?" The woman said into the phone.

"Uh, my, um, girlfriend just fell off of a third-story porch. She is unconscious, but there is a pulse," I informed her.

"Okay, now where are you?" She wondered so I gave her my address.

"I'll send an ambulance right away sir" she assured me.

"Thank you," I sighed.

"You're quite welcome!" The woman hung up then.

I put my phone back into my pocket and sat down next to Mia. I began to cry, hoping she'd be alright. That was a long fall she had, and I have no idea how she landed, and if anything is broken. The worst was rushing through my mind, not the best. I was hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. I was extremely scared, still crying beside Mia.

*Karen's POV*

"Daryl, did you hear that?" I asked my husband.

"Hear what?" He wondered.

"I thought I just heard Michael yelling 'MIA!' and a thump?" I thought I was going crazy if he didn't hear it.

"No.. I didn't hear anything. But who knows," he said, "I don't think they're together anymore, are they? I think I heard Michael saying something about them breaking up.."

"Maybe her parents split them up.." I thought out loud, "but why would I hear him screaming 'MIA!'?"

"I don't know. Maybe he fell asleep and was dreaming about her. Remember when he used to do that?" He suggested.

"Yeah, I remember. That was when they were going through a rough time before. Maybe we should check on him?" I offered.

"Yeah. That would be best.. Let's go," he got up from the couch, going upstairs towards Michael's room with me.

I opened the door to Michael's room, and he wasn't there. I opened the back door that goes out to the porch to check if he had fallen asleep out there. I saw nothing and was about to go back in when Daryl alarmed me.

"Karen!" He whispered, "Down there.."

I walked over to him, in fear of what happened. I didn't know what he was talking about. All he said was "down there" and pointed into the backyard. I was scared. I didn't know if something happened to Michael. It seemed like it since I heard a little fear in Daryl's voice.

When I got to the railing of the porch, I looked down to see Mia laying on the ground, not moving. I looked to the left of her and there was Michael. He was sitting next to her, crying.

"What happened?" I whispered to Daryl, "Is she okay? Is he okay? Why is Michael crying? What is going on?"

"I don't know. Let's go see.." He said.

I heard an ambulance in the distance. It was coming closer. We walked down the stairs and over to Michael. I crouched down next to him and put my hand on his back. He turned around to me, his cheeks stained with tears.

"Michael, what happened?" I wondered.

"Sh-she fell.." He told us.

"From the porch?" I was worried about her. That can't be good.

"Yeah," he looked back at her.

"Michael, she'll be okay. It's alright," Daryl comforted him.

The ambulance was getting really close. Suddenly, I heard it stop in front of our house and car doors slammed.

*Michael's POV*

Paramedics ran around the house with a stretcher in their hands. There were four paramedics, and they asked us to get up and get out of the way. Two paramedics held the stretcher against the ground and the other two grabbed Mia and placed her in the stretcher. Two of the paramedics were able to carry the stretcher without the other two since Mia was so light. I ran after the paramedics, with mum and dad trailing behind me. The paramedics got her into the back of the ambulance and laid her down on the table. My mum, dad, and I all got into the ambulance. One of the paramedics closed the back door, and we sped towards the hospital, all hoping Mia was okay.
