Dad immediately got up from his chair as the whole room erupted into alarmed murmurs. The others didn't know anything about Jensen and Fiona being after me. They just knew they've just been gone. So obviously they didn't know what's really going on.

A blonde woman stepped onto the stage and smiled politely. I recognized her from the council. “So sorry about that, folks, but you don't have anything to be worried about.” She caught my dad's eye and nodded. “But I think the party would be cut short.”

There was some protests but I didn't even gave a damn about it. I looked up at Dad's alarmed expression and I felt my heart beat accelerating. “Dad?” I whispered.

He ignored me and instead turned to Garret with pleading eyes.

“Take Melanie away from here. And don't leave her until I say so. Go.”

Garret nodded and grabbed my arm. “Come on, Melanie. Let's go.”

I have no choice but to stand up, too. Dad was beginning to walk outside while Mom followed him, her fangs bare. Tim was nowhere to be found, so as five of our guards. Roxanne and Heather were sitting on the chairs nervously while the other guests continued murmuring, wondering what the commotion was all about,

“Melanie, let's go,” Garret said firmly.

“Are you going to be all right?” I asked Roxanne and Heather worriedly.

Roxanne smiled at me. “Yeah. Its fine, you have to go with Garret. Jensen would see you and--”

“We don't want to hear anymore,” Garret growled. He tugged on my arm. “Melanie.”

I nodded and followed him. When we had stepped outside, I glanced back at our table. Roxanne and Heather were walking away with Tim. I breathed out a sigh of relief. They're going to be okay.

As we walked to the parking lot, my phone suddenly rang. I stopped and answered my phone. It was my dad calling.

“Melanie,” he said as soon as I answered the call, “you need to leave now. Dr. Rodriguez is badly hurt. He's unconscious right now. Your mom and I will investigate this with the cops. Tim's taking Roxanne and Heather home.”

“How about Jensen? Where is he?” I nervously asked.

Dad sighed heavily. “He escaped.”

Suddenly, my phone was snatched out of my hands. Garret and I turned and saw Jensen, my phone on his hands. He was smirking as he placed my phone on his ear. “Hello, King Alexander. I won't hurt your Melanie, but I need to talk to her for a little while. Goodbye.” He pressed the End button and his smirk got wider. “Hello, dear Melanie.”

I glared at him, remembering how he wrecked my life five years ago. I remembered how he shot Garret, how he made me feel that I'm the reason everything's gone wrong. “What are you doing here?”

“Stay away from her,” Garret said through gritted teeth.

Jensen chuckled softly. “I'll think about it. Anyway, it's been a long time since I've last seen you two. I missed you.”

“I can't say I feel the same,” I snapped at him. “Jensen, just leave us alone.”

“I can't,” he simply said. “I never knew you would be here. We thought you've been gone for good. Then I decided to pop a visit to my dearest friend, Michael. Fiona tried to stop me, saying it's too risky. But I still went anyway.”

“You planned to kill him, didn't you?” Garret accused.

“Am I that subtle?” he asked nonchalantly. “Yes, I do plan to kill Michael in his birthday. He was so damn happy when I left and besides, I've always hated him.”
