I couldn’t speak. Fiona was just outside, and maybe accompanied by Jensen. And what happened to Tim? Where was he?

Garret was looking at me worriedly, but there was something curious in his eyes. “Melanie?” he said my name.

I didn’t reply. I couldn’t say anything.

“However, I’m not staying that long,” Fiona told me conversationally. “I just picked up the document.”

This caught my attention and brought me to the present. I frowned and turned around, so that Garret wouldn’t see my expression. “Document? What document?” I demanded.

There was silence from Fiona. And then few minutes later, she said, “You didn’t know?”

“Know what?” I snapped, annoyed that I have no idea of what she was talking about.

But before Fiona could say anything, my phone was snatched away from me. I gave out a surprised gasp but it was too late. My phone was on Garret’s hands. “Who was this?” he asked me straightforwardly, his penetrating grey-blue eyes glued to mine.

“I-I don’t know.”

“You don’t know,” Garret said mockingly. Then he placed the phone on his ear.

“No!” I protested.

He, of course, ignored me. “Hello?” Then he cursed under his breath and handed me my phone. “The person already hung up. Who was that, Melanie?”

“Why do you care anyway?” I grumbled as I grabbed my phone. “It’s none of your business.”

Garret placed his hands on my shoulders. “I know it’s none of my business. But you looked so scared when you were talking to the person. What was that all about?”

I sighed. “I appreciate your concern. Really, I do. But it’s not necessary.”

Suddenly Jerome was on my side, but his long arms were gone. He was panting as if he was running for a very long time.

“Melanie!” he managed, catching his breath. “I was looking for you!”

“Why? What happened?”

“Tim… Tim disappeared!”

What?!

“We heard a shout outside. We went out to check who it was. And we noticed that Tim was nowhere to be found… I looked for you, but I couldn’t.”

“Who’s Tim?” Garret asked, and he seemed annoyed that he wasn’t part of the conversation.

“Tim’s my bodyguard,” I explained shortly. “My parents sent him here for safety reasons.”

“Why would he disappear?” Garret asked thoughtfully. In a matter of seconds, they were both discussing particular normal reasons why Tim disappeared.

My phone vibrated and I found out there was a text message. I frowned, and opened it.

Look at the back of the house. Tim’s there.

Relief flooded me. Thank God they didn’t hurt Tim. Maybe they just knocked him out and placed him at the back of the house.

“Wait, guys, I think I know where Tim is,” I butted in.

Jerome raised an eyebrow. “You know? How come?”

“I’ll explain later. He’s at the back of the house,” I said and I began making my way to the backyard. I heard Garret and Jerome following behind.
