𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐞

Nike was running through the busy streets of Republic City. The female was getting tired, but she couldn't stop. Unfortunately, she found herself cornered in an alley. The firebender tried to escape but it was too late.

'You're always cuffing me,' Nike said feeling the cold steel of the cuffs touch her soft skin. 'I'm starting to believe that is a kink of yours, Mako.'

'Don't say those things!' the male spoke almost blushing while the firebender turned around to face him.

'I was only joking,' she laughed as they walked to the police station. 'Korra won't be mad, don't worry.'

Once in the interrogation room, Mako uncuffed the female and sat at the table with her.

'It was Metal Inc who stole the materials,' Nike spoke.

'The company robbed themselves?' the police officer asked shocked.

'Yes, it's because of some insurance policy they have or something,' the female confirmed. 'I heard a conversation on the streets yesterday. If you mobilize a team right now, you should be able to find the stolen material at a warehouse near the Dragon Flats borough.'

Mako nodded and left the room to speak to a colleague so they could get that mission started. Then, he returned to the interrogation room as he still had some things to discuss with Nike.

'So, we've been trying to solve this murder for a while...' the firebender began as he felt his stress levels rise. He wasn't supposed to tell Nike about their cases, but they had been trying to solve that one for five months and found nothing. 'Two bodies were found in an alley in the Lu Hang neighbourhood. They were completely burned, but we were able to determine that they were Amon's henchmen. Have you heard anything about this?'

Nike tensed up but was able to not change her expression. If anyone found out it had been her, she was going to spend the rest of her life in a cell with a metal mask covering her mouth.

'I've heard about it, but no one knows anything,' she faked a sad look. 'How's the search for Amon's body?' the female changed the subject.

'We are still looking for him alive,' the police officer replied. 'There is no evidence that he is dead.'

'But he is,' the firebender said coldly. 'Anyway, I need to get going, I have a match this afternoon.'

'Yeah, of course,' Mako spoke making it clear he was a little aloof. That case of the two burned men was intriguing him and then Amon's disappearance... there were too many mysteries. 'You're back at pro-bending, right? I almost forgot! How are things going?'

'Pretty well,' Nike smiled. 'We're still on the qualifying rounds, but I am confident we're going to get to the tournament easily.'

The Blue Flame prodigy was back in the Pro-bending world, and she had joined the Catgators team officially after it was known that Shuro wouldn't be able to be a pro-bender again due to his injury. The team was still fighting in the heats to then advance to the qualifying tournament and finally enter the big championship.

The benders were stronger than ever, and they wanted to win more than anything. With Nike in the team and Shuro as their instructor, getting to the preliminary rounds was easy. Now, they just needed to win that, and they would be in the big Pro-bending tournament.

'Let's go!' Nike exclaimed before the Catgators walked to the field.

'Introducing the Capital City Catgators!' the ring announcer shouted. 'With their waterbender Akashi and their earthbender Shone. And finally, the team's captain and firebender Nike!'

The crowd cheered and screamed for the team while the benders raised their hands and waved to the public to thank them for their support.

'And their opponents, Golden Temple Tigerdillos!' the host exclaimed and proceeded to introduce the team members since that was their first match.

'What a great way to start, folks!' Shiro Shinobi spoke with a happy smile on his face. 'Two strong but very different teams! Who will win? The Tigerdillos experience or the Catgators innovative techniques?'

Shiro would have his answer very soon.

All three matches were tough, but the last one was neck to neck. The Tigerdillos were proving to everyone age didn't mean a thing when it came to pro-bending. Unfortunately, the last round ended with a tie and the Catgators won the coin toss. Nike defeated Josei easily in the duel and the Capital City team moved to the next phase.

'It was a great match,' Haka, the Tigerdillos' leader, commented with Nike while the benders were still on the field after the match was over.

'It was!' the firebender agreed with a smile.

After that, the pro-benders shook each other's hands and then left the field.

In Catgators' locker room was Shuro. The team's instructor was immensely proud of the pro-benders who were able to win the first match of the preliminary rounds. He reminded the benders they had training tomorrow and then dismissed them.

The three pro-benders walked out of the arena together and with happy faces.

'See you tomorrow, Nike!' Akashi said while Shone waved as they got out of the building and headed in a different direction from what Nike was taking.

'See ya!' the firebender waved back.

'Nike!' someone called the female.

It was Asami. Mako, Korra and Bolin were with her. They were all near the arena's entrance and they were all waiting for Nike.

'Congratulations! That match was amazing!' Korra exclaimed with a big smile.

'It was a great start,' Mako agreed. 'Now you just have to keep it up!'

Nike didn't know how to react. No one had ever done such a thing for her. No one had ever congratulated her like that. No one had ever cared like that.

'So, what are your plans for tonight, Nike?' Bolin asked while putting an arm around the female.

He and his friends were planning on having a night out and they wanted the pro-bender to go with them.

'I have training tomorrow morning,' the firebender informed, disappointing the group. 'Maybe another day.'

Nike was feeling relieved that she couldn't hang out with Bolin and the others. Seeing Mako and Korra together made her feel sick and the female wasn't really the masochist type. She couldn't explain why, but it hurt her to see the firebender with someone else. Nike was happy for him but sad for her.

However, the black-haired bender had too many things on her mind to be thinking about Mako and his perfect girlfriend. She needed to focus on the tournament, but that was easier said than done. And, at that moment, the girl had just too many things on her mind.

Some days before, Mako had told Nike some Equalists that were in prison finally decided to cooperate with the police and speak about Amon. Two of the soldiers that had been guarding the Air Temple Island had told they had seen Amon returning to the Island and then leaving with a man they believed to be Tarrlok. The Equalists said they had left on a boat.

Nike believed herfather was dead, but now she wasn't so sure. What if he wasn't? The firebenderwas tired of storms. She just wanted to find peace.
