no matter how much distance grew,
no matter how much they matured,
the one thing that never changed,
was the two hearts that formed a whole.

"Here, take my number. Make sure you save it. Leave me a text so I can save yours too once you get home. We can't lose contact once more." Kaycee scribbled down her number on a piece of scrap paper she tore out of a notebook.

"Yes, definitely. That will be the first thing I shall do the moment I step foot into my bedroom. Alright, I think that would be all for now. Thanks for allowing me to join you guys." Sean thanked Kaycee, before making his way out of her bedroom and back into the kitchen, to properly thank her parents.

"I'll see you later, perhaps? If you have nothing planned tonight?" Kaycee asked, just as Sean walked out of the door.

"I should be free. I'll text you and let you know later, alright? See ya, Ricebowl." Sean winked and slowly make his way back to his house.

"See ya Shamu." Kaycee yelled towards Sean and he gave her a thumbs up, before heading into his house.

Kaycee realised Sean looked a little different. Sean not just became a giraffe all of a sudden, but he became a little buffer than she remembered him to be. She remembered the little skinny noodle armed boy, not this slightly jacked with decent muscle mass sitting on his arms grown man.

His hair was way longer than last time, too. His bangs now starting to cover his eyebrows, not sure if it was intentional, the back part of his hair partially shielding the back of his neck. He seemed a little rugged up, maybe because he still wasn't really over his dad's passing.

Kaycee remembered those times where he would start spending more time with her in her house because every corner in his seemed haunted. Haunted not by the ghost of his father, but the memories of him. They were the closest father-son duo anyone has ever seen, or at least for this neighbourhood.

He grew terrified of his own home. The place that should have kept him safe from everything. But instead, it scared him.

She felt bad for leaving him alone back in this town, while she flew away temporarily to pursue her dreams. No matter how necessary it was and how much she knew her parents wanted her to go for it, the guilt never stopped building inside of her.

The look in his eyes for those last few weeks before she left were empty and frightened. He was worried of being left alone. Loneliness was something he shouldn't be dealing with at such a young age, but with his mom taking on 2 jobs to support the family, he had no one else to rely on except his friends.

Bailey was one of them. She took care of him and made sure he was at least eating a meal a day. Seeing him in such a state was painful, and she knew that she had to step up and help him to the best of her abilities.

Now that she was back, she was glad to see that he was getting a little better than the last time she saw him. No more frowns, no more sulking faces. He was slowly becoming himself again. And that made Kaycee happy.

Hey Kayc! Sean here. :)

Kaycee smiled at the nickname he gave her being spelled out on text.

Shamu! Took you long enough. I was thinking we could visit the park we always used to go to every evening?

Sean was reminded with flashbacks of that place. The beautiful trees, the wide open view of a field that had overgrown grass. There were small flower patches around as well, with flowers ranging from colours like red to purple.
