chapter 37: Emotional damage

Sky's POV

I sigh while rubbing my eyes as I try to focus on the screen where the presentation is going on. I've been stuck in this meeting for more than an hour already and I'm feeling so tired and sleepy. This project is draining me but I can't lose this. It's one of the prestigious collaboration with a top company from foreign. It's a great opportunity for us to expand our business internationally. That's why I'm holding onto it even though it's exhausting me, not just physically but mentally as well. I've been so busy this past month, I have to come to office early and I'll be the last person to leave. I'm not getting time to spend with Eco. I miss him so much and spending time with him. We're also talking rarely because of my tight schedule. Among all these draining things, one good news is that today will be the last day of working on this project. With this presentation, the project will come to an end and then I'll be free. I'm gonna take a leave for a week and be with Eco.

"Sky?" I snap out of thoughts when I hear my name, "the presentation is done."

I look at the screen to read the end of it and turn to the lady immediately. She's the project manager from the client's side and has been taking care of everything with me from the beginning.

"Yeah." I give her my regards as it's done, "I'm happy to work with your company and believe it's going to bring us something good. I hope our products reach the expectations of the customers and that we'll collaborate again. Tell my regards to your CEO. Thank you." she nods at me with a smile.

I almost get ready to get up when suddenly the door gets open and since the room is dark I can't see who it is. When the lights gets on, I see Eco standing there. I look at him confused but stand up and approache him.

"Baby, what are you doing here?" I ask him while standing in front of him.

"Why? Can't I come?" He resorts back.

"Of course you can." I reply, "is anything important and urgent?" I'm worried if anything is wrong with him. He never once came to my office in search of me.

"You won't talk if it's not urgent?" He queries, he sounds angry.

"I will but I just need a minute to send her off." I whisper about the lady to him, "can you wait a minute?"

"Oh! Yeah, I can. I've been waiting for an hour. I can surely wait for more." He says sarcastically and gives a look to the lady behind me before looking back at me, "I'll wait while you enjoy your time with her."

"What? Baby, what are you saying?" I call out confused. What is he talking?

"I know everything. I know you're cheating on me." His eyes fill with tears before they start falling off slowly, "break up! We'll divorce."

He yells and turns around as he storms out of the room. For a minute I lost the track of what just happened? Cheating? Break up? Divorce? What is he thinking and talking? Is he thinking I'm cheating on him? But why will I do that?

Shaking my head of thoughts, I leave the room and run behind him, leaving the lady over there. But by the time I come out, he's already gone. I get in my car and head home as I know that's where he'll be going. I drive fastly, not paying attention to any signals and reach home. Going in, I see mom in the living room.

"Mama, is Eco home?" I ask him for confirmation.

"Yeah, he just came home running. He's crying. What happened, Sky? You hurt him?" Mom questions me worried.

"No, mama. He's just imagining things. I don't know what's going on in his head." I mumble as I walk on the stairs.

When I reach our room, I see him at the closet. He's pulling out his clothes and putting them all in a bag. He's crying constantly and his tears won't stop falling. He keeps wiping them off but they're endless.
