Ch. 50

A/N: I imagined Sonic and Knuckles armor will be like pyrrha and patroklos from Soul Callibur 5 are wearing but different. Enjoy.

Ever since that dance from Manic and Sally's wedding, both Sonic and Knuckles have gotten more closer than before. Over time Sonic slowly went from a cold shell to a big softie towards Knuckles. They hung out together even after Sonic got done with his royal duties. Knuckles teases Sonic about being a little stuffy as a result to that he pouts. The one time they had a little snow at the kingdom once. When Sonic took a break from helping the kingdom prepare for the cold winter, he was met with Knuckles and both of them shared a hot cup of cocoa at the fireplace. To each other Knuckles was Sonics sweet red heart and Sonic is Knuckles bright blue moon. One other time both Knuckles and Sonic had a little relaxation time to themselves. Though one night Knuckles had a nightmare and had to turn to Sonic to snuggle. As a result Sonic allowed her to sleep with him. Neither of them realized how deep their love for each other really is until the day of the battle against which was only 8 weeks after Sonia was married off to another kingdom and only 2 weeks until before Sonics coronation. Sonic heard Scourge was back for more mayhem with his army but this time Sonic was ready with his army. Even though Sonic wanted to face Scourge alone. The blue hedgehog was shining his sword while getting ready for battle. He has his armor on and his determination. Before he can walk out Knuckles caught up with him and said as she grabbed his hand, "Sonic wait." Sonic stopped and looked at her. Sonic asked, "What is it Nakuru?" Knuckles blushed that Sonic called her by her old name. Knuckles gulped and said after she took a deep breath, "You can't do this alone. I'm coming with you." Sonic shook before he said, "Absolutely not." Knuckles protested, "Sonic this isn't your battle anymore. Have you forgotten they did this to me?" Sonic placed his hands on her shoulders and said calmly but firm, "Look I have been doing this battle with my father for over a year. I haft to keep you safe. Stay here with my mother. I don't want you hurt again." With that said Sonic walked off. But Knuckles couldn't hold still while Sonic is risking his neck for her and the kingdom. That's when Jules said from behind, "Aren't you gonna get ready for battle?" Knuckles sighed and said, "I need to. Sonic forgotten I had his back and I wasn't the only one. Even when I was mean to him." Jules then said as he put a hand on her shoulder, "Then what's stopping you from having his back now?"  Knuckles replied, "Nothing. I'll be right back." With that said she went to the changing room to get ready for battle.

<meanwhile at the battlefield>

The battle between the kingdom of Mobius and the kingdom of Morbius was happening in the battlefield which is in the outskirts of the two kingdoms. The horns have played and the battle has started. Everyone shouted while charging at their enemies. Sonic was face to face with Scourge. The blue hedgehog said, "Scourge The Hedgehog. The king of Morbius, we meet again." Scourge chuckled evilly and said, "Hehehehe. I am interested in the fact that you came back. What's the matter? Did you quit being a hero?" Sonic protested, "It ain't your business Scourge." Scourge then asked as they sword fight, "Where is your new girlfriend blue?" Sonic replied, "I left her back at the palace." Scourge said, "Oh really? Then who's that behind you?" Sonic stunned Scourge with a push before he looked behind him to see one of the morbius army men was gonna slash him but Knuckles appeared and slashed the army men with a sword. Sonic then said to her with a stern tone, "I thought I told you to stay at the palace!" Knuckles replied with determination, "Sorry Sonic. But this is what we haft to do together. I can't just watch while you risking your life for your people and the kingdom." Sonic was a little mad but he calm down cause he know Knuckles has a point. He can't fight Scourge alone. Knuckles then said as she walked placed a hand on his shoulder, "I have your back Sonic. Through the hard times and toughest of battles. You don't have to do this alone anymore. We can be a real team again even if it means just the two of us." Sonic smiled at her as he said, "I guess your right." Scourge then said as the two looked at them, "Well isn't that cute? You two are in love. Makes me sick." Scourge then charged at them as Sonic blocked his attack as Sonics attempt to protect Knuckles from the evil version of himself. Scourge growled as Sonic slashed his leather jacket. That's when Scourge said, "You ruined my jacket." Sonic protested seriously, "It's just a stupid jacket Scourge!" Scourge then said as he cheated (by slashing Sonic and pushed him into a deep pond nearby), "Well then have a little swim you blue twerp!" With that said Sonic was slashed and fell into the deep pond. Knuckles gasped before she growled and sword fought Scourge and said, "Your gonna regret that!" Scourge laughed evilly and said, "Oh please! Don't make me laugh girly. That weakling had it coming. Someone as scrawny and cowardly like blue won't even beat me." Knuckles then said, "He maybe scrawny but he's no coward. He has a strong heart!" With that said Knuckles snatches the sword away from Scourge's sword with hers. Then she slashed Scourge by the chest. One of the morbius army caught him as Scourge shouted, "RETREAT!!!" Just after he said that Scourge and his army ran off. Knuckles then rush to the pond in a panic. Before Knuckles can dive in, Sonic poked his head out of the water and said, "I'm okay Nakuru." Thats when Sonic swam back to shore as Knuckles asked, "Sonic. Are you okay?" Knuckles took a look at the slash on Sonics shoulder as the blue hedgehog replied, "I'm fine. One slash isn't gonna bother me." Knuckles then said, "Y-you swam." Sonic replied as he squeezed the water out of his spikes, "Yeah I got over my fear of water over a month after Sonia's coronation. Haven't got any swimming since I saved you from drowning." Knuckles gasped before she smiled and said as she hugged Sonic, "So it was you who saved me. Thank you so much Sonic." Thats when Sonic replied, "It's no problem Nakuru." The army of mobius shouted in victory as they watched the morbius army fled the battlefield.
