With a shaky breath, Lia closed her eyes and leaned back against the shower wall. She rubbed her eyes and wiped the tears from her cheeks, as she then stepped forward into the hot water. Taking a deep breath, she finished rinsing off, then got out of the shower.

Lia wrapped a towel around herself and quickly dried off, before pulling on the outfit she had laid out for herself.

As she finished getting dressed, she left her bathroom and then approached the stairs, adjusting her sweatpants before she walked downstairs and then went to the living room.

With no appetite to eat breakfast, she sat on the sofa and turned on the television with the remote.

"A twenty-seven year old police officer was shot to death last night in Charming, California."

That peaked Lia's attention.

She looked up from her lap to the television and sighed as the news reporter went on with their report.

"He was found in an alleyway behind the police station at six am this morning. Now we will be hearing from the department themselves."

"Good morning," The new chief had popped up on screen. Lia didn't bother to know his name. "I regret to inform everyone that Lucas Raegen was found deceased this morning. Some knew him as Officer Ragen, others knew him as simply Luke."

As she listened, her eyes widened and tears immediately filled them. Although it did take her a few seconds to process that information, once the picture of him showed up... it hit her.

"He was a well mannered man, he was good at his job.. he'd go above and beyond." The chief started to get emotional. He took a deep breath and tried to collect himself, "He was our best. I'm sorry," he spoke as he choked on a sob. "I worked with him closely, he went on all of our calls. My condolences to the family."

Lia broke down. She screamed, she sobbed and cried.

Why Luke?
