His hand glided across hers as he sat down on the coffee table in front of her, part of him hoping she'd wake up and remember him. Happy closed his eyes as he gently squeezed her hand and then looked down at her sleeping face, an overwhelming urge to wake her up somehow. He let go of her hand gently and looked over her body, "She wasn't this banged up when I saw her the other day." He muttered to Lindsay, who just rolled her eyes and crossed her arms as she sat down on the edge of the couch. Happy sighed and looked down at her, before slowly standing up. "Wake up, soon, girl. I'll see you again." He whispered in her ear and gazed down at her for a few minutes, before Lindsay grabbed him by the arm, dragged him to the door and threw him outside. She slammed the door behind her and sighed as the timer beeped.
She locked the door and quickly went into the kitchen, grabbing the towel on the oven to pull out the stuffed peppers and set the pan on the counter. She turned off the oven and then groaned as she heard a knock on the door.
Lindsay dragged her feet to the door and peeked through the window, sighing as she saw it was Luke. She opened the door and let him in with a smile, then closed and locked the door behind them. She pets Armageddon as he jumps at her feet, a soft bark leaving his throat "You wanna go wake Lia up, lover boy?" She asked as she went back into the kitchen, grabbing plates from the cabinet. She quickly placed a pepper on each plate, then set up the table.
Lindsay smiled and poured them some drinks, then walked out into the living room, where Luke was waking up Lia with Armageddon.
She watched from the corner as her eyes fluttered and then opened, her eyes immediately catching on Luke who was standing above her. "Afternoon, sleepy head." He teased and grabbed her sling, helping her sit up. "I have Armageddon again." Luke spoke slowly and smiled, "He missed you." Lucas put the sling back on Lia and then shifted his attention to Armageddon, who barked in excitement and gently rested his paws in between Lia's legs as he stood on the couch.
Lia smiled, "He's cute. I don't remember him though," She said as she pet him after wiping her eyes. Once he hopped down, she reached for her crutch and pulled herself up to her feet. Lia set the crutch under her arm and slowly walked towards the kitchen, following Lindsay.
"I know, you guys loved each other though. Best friends," Luke teases as he followed behind Lia, making sure she wouldn't fall backwards. "He replaced me pretty easily. He chuckles and smiles down at her, helping her sit in the chair as they reached the kitchen table.
"Thank you," Lia said softly and watched as Armageddon laid right down under her feet. She smiled and gently propped her leg up and over him, smiling slightly. "He's a good dog."
"That he is." Luke responds and sits down across from Lia, next to Lindsay.
. . .
Lia looked up as she sat up from her bed and looked over at Lindsay, who sat in the edge. "Can you tell me about myself and like my family?" She asks and fixes her pajama shirt, then slowly starts to take off her sling.
"I see your pain meds kicked in," Lindsay gave her a chuckle, then helped her with her immobilizer. "You, you were the most caring person I had ever met. You're literally a ray of sunshine. You loved your family, even though you were miles away from most of them and you also loved music," Lindsay spoke slowly and pulled the blanket over her and Armageddon, who was laying right by her side. "You enjoyed cooking, baking, painting and even cleaning.. your favorite color was purple. You worked as an office person before the accident.."
"Where's my family?" She asked, looking over at Lindsay after she put a pillow under her leg. "Why am I so far away from them?"
"Your mother said you needed a change," Lindsay spoke, "That you were too depressed in your hometown after two of your siblings passed." Lia nodded and rested her head on the pillow, reaching over to scratch Armageddon's head. "You haven't seen your oldest sister in years or even heard from her and your parents are in Michigan, your hometown."
Lia nodded and closed her eyes slowly, "Do I drive the car out in my driveway?" She asked.
"The black Nissan? Yeah, you do. You bought it yourself after you moved here." Lindsay spoke and looked over at Lia, "You also had a dog in your childhood. You loved her more than anything, that was the picture you saw earlier on the table in the hallway." She smiled when she heard Lia's breathing shallow, then slowly stood up and left the room.
Lindsay slowly walked down the stairs and walked into the living room, sitting next to Luke who was going through a few photo albums. "She's asleep. I'm gonna go sleep for a few hours, keep an eye out for her? And if you feel nice enough, you can do laundry and more dishes." She teased and bumped his arm.
"You gotcha," Luke chuckled and saluted, watching her head upstairs. "Sleep good." He called after her.
"It's hard when your ugly face is in my dreams," Lindsay joked back as she reached the stairs, grabbing a hold of the railing.
"How considerate," Luke chuckled and shook his head, then turned his attention back to the photo album. He ran his thumb over a picture, reading the writing under it. Mom, dad, Noelle, Jordan, Ava and Lia. Our last family picture, all together..
