chapter 2: school (Lily)

We walked into the first day of school. Mountains Peak was red and at the top was a bell that could be heard for miles.  It had three levels and a south side and a North side. But the problem was that both of the sides look the same and all of the levels look the same too so the first time I went about a year ago I got lost like ten times. This building is for 15th levels through 20th levels, I am in the highest school building there is.
Inside it was buzzing in excitement for the first day of school. Balloons were floating around everywhere. It was chaos. Gnomes were running everywhere, being helpful to everyone.
When we opened our lockers confetti shot out in our faces. Leaving me to spit it out of my mouth. Behind all the confetti were two gnomes, smiling madly. Sometimes the gnomes make more trouble than help you. There was a sign that said welcome to the first day of school. The school each assigns us two gnomes to help us out. But some people use them way too much. Like Yelana I recognized from last year. She was one of the most popular girls and a total jerk. She always has the gnomes carry all of her books and she doesn’t even care about them. Last year both of them fell under the weight of the books and all she did was yell at them to get up. I promised myself that I wouldn’t be like her.
“Thank you” I said to the gnomes.
“I am going to name you… Sage” I pointed to the girl gnomes that had a blue hat on instead of a red hat.
“And you are….John” I said to the boy gnome.
“You ready?” Wren asked me, mysteriously appearing at my side, followed by his gnomes.
“Ya, let me just grab my books”
When I went to grab my books Sage and John already had all them in their hands. I hated when someone else does work when I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. I grabbed the books from them and followed Wren to the big meeting room.    The meeting room is where everyone goes in the morning for the announcements, but today is the first day so we were also receiving our schedules.
“What did you name your gnomes?” I asked Wren while we were walking to the meeting room.
    “You name them already.”
“Ya, this is Sage” I said pointing to the girl one, “and this is John.” Pointing to the other one.
“Well, I should have known you would name them.”
“Why, what’s so bad about that?”
“Most people don’t get attached to their gnomes. Gnomes are just there. Don’t tell other people you named them.”
“But, I’m not most people, I think it’s stupid not to acknowledge or not to name them because they help us and what are we doing for them? Nothing.” I say
“They chose to help us. They could walk away anytime but they chose to stay.”
“I know that and I am very grateful for them but we need to stop treating them badly.”
“I agree with that. Some people treat them really badly, but the best we can do is be fair to ours.” Said Wren.
      “Right.” I say.
We finally got to the meeting room and we are met with a very crowded giant room, with everyone running around chasing after things getting shot out of their wands. We moved across the maze of people finally finding a seat.
The principal came in with black straight hair and the same color of eyes I have. She wore a short tight green dress that went with her hair and black high heels. Once she entered everyone immediately became silent and sat down. Even the bells on the gnome's head’s stop jingling. She was terrifying, if she caught you talking while someone else is talking even whispering she will put you in detention.
“Welcome my friends too another year at Mountain’s Peak. If you are new then I give a special welcome to you, you have just joined the greatest school of all time.”
“Mountains Peak is a very special place full of wonder and imagination. But there is a threat out there…”
“Here we go again,” Wren whispered in my ear. It was a miracle that the principal didn’t catch him.
I gave a look that said “really?”
He looked back at me like “what?” I turned back to pay attention to what the principal was saying.
“The other school moonlight is trying to squash us, so everyone be on the lookout for them. We Mountain Peak are a much better school than those awful moonlight people. Anyway school feuds aside we expect you to have good grades and I advise you to study, study, study. All classes are hard and do your best. Let me remind you NO WANDS ARE ALLOWED OUT UNLESS YOU ARE IN CLASSES. We had a dangerous accident last year and we don’t want that again. That is all, welcome again and have a great year.
The room was back in commotion after that.
“Why does she hate moonlight so much?” I ask Wren.
“Rumor has it last year moonlight won the coin toss”
I gasped, the coin toss was a big thing in this world. It is only played once a year and it is said that whoever loses has bad luck for the rest of the year. Mountain’s Peak had won it for the last 7 years, or so we thought.
“But last year they said we won it” I said
“Then most of us wanted to keep it a secret”
    “But why?”
Just then one of the teachers gave us our schedules.
“Thank you” I said to the teacher
    I looked at my schedule:
