Meeting that weird girl again I could not take up that chance to get a look around with her tour and plus this will help me blend in. I was waiting outside of the social studies classroom for Amy after just enduring that longest most confusing class in my life. The worst part was that I had to learn about human history. I didn’t even know what they were talking about.
The teacher was very nice. I wasn’t in the class list so she said that she could talk to the principal about this. Wow, she was willing to talk on my behalf.
Everything is so weird here. The buildings look so broken down whereas in my home everything is much more shiny and big. Even Wren’s house looked big compared to these tiny houses here. The school was different too, I have never heard a bell before in my life and these humans look at what they call a clock to see what time it was. I think looking at the sun is much better, using what the world has given us. There are no gnomes, no one to help you. Yelna would not like that at all. A huge chunk of animals are gone too, all I see are birds. I saw them in a text book about the lost worlds and a few other animals I could not name. They were missing out on a lot. I could not believe that I was human even if it did say on my birth certificate, they were just so different then us. I mean WE are so different then the Enchanted Lands people.
Amy coming out put me out of my thoughts.
“Hey, sorry I took so long. I had to talk to Ms. Lamb”
“No, worries” I was starting to like Amy more and more.
“Ok, lets get on with the tour”
But before we could go some people came up to us. One boy with black short hair and what looked like big strong arms. He looked kind of shy to me but also not as shy and he looked kind of cute. I blushed once I thought of that. The girl had strawberry blonde hair and skinny arms. She held herself with confidence. I could tell that she was the one person that talked a lot. The looks from them to Amy told me that they were her friends.
“Hey, guys. I want you to meet Lily, the new student. Lily, this is Alice” she pointed to the girl. “And this is Emmet,” she pointed to the boy.
“Oh, hi. You will love this school. It's amazing.” said Alice. She hugged me right on. I was very surprised. I knew I was going like her.
I smiled at her. “It’s very nice to meet you Alice”
I turned to Emmet and he said “hey, welcome. I like your name.”
I blushed “thank you. I like your unique name.”
When I saw their faces I was pretty sure that that name was not unique.
“Well where I am from it’s unique”
“Where are you from?” Alice asked.
“Umm,” I thought of a good place that I knew about in the lost worlds. “Tennessee”
“I always wanted to go there” Said Alice
“Ya, it’s pretty great there” I said.
“How is it there?” Emmet asked.
“Umm, warm?” I said questionably.
Emmet laughed and said “ya, we know that”
I felt my face going red.
“Umm, guys we should be getting on with the tour so that we can have enough time to get our classes.” Amy said.
“Right, don’t want to be late on the first day of school.” I said.
They led me down a hall I had never seen before. Alice mostly tried to make conversation with me asking me a lot of questions. Like “how do you like this school so far?” And “what classes do you have?” I tried to answer the questions as best as I could but some of the answers were lame. But still Alice looked fascinated at my answers.
Emmet meanwhile was shy and didn’t talk to me once while walking down the wall. But I caught him more than once looking at me and I swear I saw him blush when I caught him. That’s just because I’m new, I thought.
We started to walk down the hall with kids running all around the place. Some people were on their lockers digging around for stuff and others were hanging out with friends in their little circles all giggling.
We walked all around the school into the lunchroom and the field outside. This school was like a maze. I could tell that I was going to get lost a lot. It’s not as bad as Mountains Peak but still. We turned corners and corners until Amy suddenly stopped, I almost ran into her.
“What?” I asked
“You will see.” She said with a wicked smile. I knew I shouldn’t trust these people, I just met them in this very strange world but they were the first people that were all actually being kind to me. We walked up to a wall that was white brick and from the looks of it it was cold and damp and icky.
“Do you see anything different about this part of the wall?” Amy asks.
I looked at it a bit closer and now I could see that there was a slight crack running up the wall making a door. I could have easily passed by it if Amy didn’t ask me to look closer.
“It’s a door.” I say finally. Everyone smiled.
Amy looked around seeing if anyone was around. There was no one. I guess this hallway isn’t as popular. Then she touched ever so slightly the middle brick in the wall that now I could see it was jutted out a bit. When she pressed it the brick went in and the door opened all by itself in a quick snap and opened to… a very long dark hallway with nothing in sight, even all the noise I heard from the hallway was mostly gone. The walls were not that far apart, there was just enough room for the four of us. It looked like they made this their own little hang out, there were cushions on the floor and fairy lights hanging that made it way less creepy. There were drawings hanging on the walls with everyone and other stuff that I couldn’t tell what it was. Just wow, this was amazing.
“This is our usual hangout, all quiet and away from stuff. We call it the hideout.” Said Amy
Even though it was dark and there felt like nothing was there it was kind of cozy.
“Ya, this is nice.” I say. I walked around looking at all the little things they have in there. The drawings were exquisite with each detail in place. There were drawings of Amy, Emmet, Alice, and Amy, Emmet, Alice and a boy that looked older than Amy and them but strangely similar to Amy. I wanted to ask who drew these but now was not the time. There were so many blankets in there that if you slept in here then you would get a heat stroke. I just wanted to jump into all of the fluffy things and never come back into the world but I knew I couldn’t do that. I still needed to find my parents.
“We usually come here after school. If we want to talk about stuff that we don’t want anyone else to hear, this is the spot. No one and I mean no one comes here.” Says Emmet.
I nod my head.
“How did you know about this place?” I ask
“Well my it was actually my brother’s place and he gave it to me.” Amy said.
That must be the boy in the drawing, now I could see that they were brother and sister. Same hair and eyes, but that was it. I could see why this place was cool, I mean it was hidden by a wall door.
“Well that was nice of him to give it to you.” I say.
Amy looked like she was about to cry and turned away. Did I say something wrong?
“He passed away.” Amy said in a really high pitched voice turning around to face me.
“Oh,” I cover my mouth with my hand. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean-”
“You don’t have to say sorry for anything, you didn’t know. But this place… keeps him close.”
“I understand.”
After that I didn’t know what to say so it was awkward silence.
“Well, You are welcome to come here anytime. And if you need to talk about something just say so and we know where to go.” Says Alice, breaking the silence.”
I might need this place, I could see that this was a nice place to think. Get away from everything.
“What’s your next class?” Alice asked
“Ummm, what is your next class?”
“Science” Emmet answered for me.
“Oh, I have that too” whatever that was.
“Great, let's go, we should get going,” Alice said.
Alice turned on me when we got out of the hideout. “Don’t tell Anyone about this.” She says pointing her finger at me.
I just nod.
“This means a lot to Amy and if you ruin that I will personally hunt you down.” Alice said in a very firm voice.
“I would never ever try to hurt Amy or any of you. You have been the most kind people even though I just got here. Thank you for everything.” And I really meant it.
Alice’s face turned back into a smile. “Also look around before you open the door and get inside as quickly as you can.”
“Got it,”
The hallway was all clear of students now, that ment we were late. We finally made it to the classroom and the teacher yelled at us for being late. I could tell that this teacher was mean just like my old social studies teacher. Alice and Amy shrunk down when she was yelling at us but Emmet didn’t, I liked that about him.
When she was finally done yelling at us she finally looked at me and realized that I was a new student. She smiled a wicked smile at me and only said to me “I am sorry I had to yell, welcome sweetheart. What is your name?”
“Lily,” I said in a very small voice.
“Welcome come sit down, all of you”
I sat down on the desk in the back corner with Emmet next to me.
I felt him leaning closer to me. I could feel his breath on my ear and it tickled me. I instantly blushed when I realized how close he was to me. “You're lucky, she never smiles at people.” Emmet whispered. I was barely able to hear him.
I cracked a smile at him.
“Thanks for showing me the hideout.” I whisper back.
“Of course, you're one of us now.”
Wow, I loved that. I really did have some friends here now.
The teacher went into a talk about stuff I didn’t understand. I mostly didn’t pay attention. At the corner of my eye in the window I swear I saw a purple flash like a Portal Ray. But that is impossible, there are no Portal Rays here. It must have been a trick to the eye.
A/N: Loved writing this chapter. I got some inspiration from my school.
Also I drew the hideout for you. I hope you like it!
