𝐀 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝

chapter 3: Lily

     We moved on to our lockers using some of the time Ms. Della gave us to get books.
    I can’t stop thinking about some of what she said applied to me. I could barely do anything with my wand, I had no powers and I have dark brown eyes.
    “That was interesting” Wren told me
    Instead of me telling him about my suspicions I said “I like hearing about other worlds. What about you?”
    “I just think that it would be way too hard to lived without magic”
    “That was exactly what I was thinking when I found that out”
    “I mean look what you can do”
     He pulled out his wand that was jet black and was about 8 inches long. He waved it in the air and said a word that I recognized as the spell to levitate things that we learned last year, which I could barely do.
    “Wren your not suppose to take out your wand you could get in trouble.” I wispered to him.
     “What’s school without breaking the rules?”
    “Well, well if it isn't the girl with no powers.” She said a little too loud making everyone turn their heads toward them. “And the guy breaking the rules.”
Yelena coming out of nowhere started Wren so much that he dropped the books, landing on my gnomes. I went down to the ground to see they were ok. Cupping them in my hands. 
    “Are you guys ok” I asked them
     Wren leaned into my ear and whispered “I’m sorry about that.”
     It wasn’t him fault but I couldn’t say that right now.
     My gnomes just looked like they were staring in space.
     Yelena has been bullying us for the past year. I hate it. I always try to stand my ground and talk back to her but she always turns my words against me.
    “And she even cares about her gnomes” Yelena says in a singsong voice.
    “At least I care” I shot back.
    She snored “only a loser cares about their gnomes”
    “Don’t talk to her like that” Wren yells. “Your the loser”
    “Oh, you have your boyfriend standing up for you, you powerless person.”
Some part of me thought that it was true. I was the only person in our level that still had no powers. I had to get them this year. Some other part of me knew that I had to stand up for myself and not let her words get to me.
    “I have more power than you know”
    “Oh, ya” “the power in Knowledge” she put in air quotes.
    She made me feel so sick and angry. I balled my fits like I was about to hit her.
    Yelena smiled “ah, am I making you all mad inside”
    “And am I making you inside? Is bullying your only other thing to do to get your mind off your parents divorce?” I said quick and sharp. Sharp it was indeed, I could see I hit a nerve. Her face fell out of her smiling bully mask and shaped into a frown. She turned really pale and for a moment she didn’t know what to say for once. I know I should be guilty for saying that but I’m not. She deserved that.
      I was saved by the bell, everyone walking off to get to class just as a teacher came out and told us to get to class.
    She walked up to me madly and was only an inch away from my face. Every inch of me wanted to shrink away but I knew I had to stand my ground and not let her scare me. She was looking at me with unbroken eyes with the “I will kill you scare” Then she said in a rough, angry tone, “I am not done with you” Then she turned away abruptly and stocked off to class. Wren took his hands in mine. Immediately my hands uncurled and my anger went away when her cold heart was out of my presence.
    “You ok?” Wren asked kindly.
    “What if she is right? What if I am just a useless powerless person?”
    “Don’t let her words go to your head. You are not useless or powerless”
    “How do you know”
    “Like you said you have more power then she knows, and you are not useless, you are my best friend”
    “I guess I am”
    He smiled “now let’s get off to class before a teacher can give us detention”

    Next class was Portal Ray. I was so excited about this class that I forgot all about the way Yelena treated me. All around me people were talking all about the Portal Ray. They seemed excited as me. Wren didn’t seem that excited though, I didn’t know why.
    We had to leave our gnomes at the door for fear that they may walk into one of the portals. After the books fell on Sages and John’s heads they looked fine. Just a little dizzy and wobbly. Some people didn’t look happy, including Yelena. They had to carry all of their stuff with their hands now, ha, that will show you.
    Yelena was pointing daggers with her eyes right at me from across the hall.
    “I will come back for you soon” I told my gnomes.
    When we moved in we were in a big open space like a gym. The teacher was a guy that was bald and wore a shirt that had a sports team on it that I couldn’t remember the name of. His name was Mr. Alex and he was pretty strict.
    He went right into a lecture about all the risks and the safety of a portal Ray. He kept on repeating that if you don’t keep your concentration then you may as well be dead. Everyone shutterd at that. and that after this class was done for the year that each one of us will get to take one home.
    Finally he said that he was going to do a demonstration. He raised the jet black rock in his hand and closed his eyes.
    “Just imagine where you want to go clear in your mind”
    There was a rip and a purple flash of light. Right there floating in the air was a black circle, it looked like it was a mix of black, purple, and blue. The colors were blended and always changing, you never know what is happening in there. Kind of like space. inside led to who knows where into the darkness. It was the most magical thing I have seen yet. Even though I live in a magical land. inside led to who knows where into the darkness.
    “Nothing will happen to you if you keep your concentration on where you are going”
    He opened his eyes then stepped through the portal into the darkness.
