I woke up in bed with a start, having the most helpful dream. I had to tell Lily, oh, she’s going to be so happy when I tell her this. I ran out of bed and almost knocked down the door when I finally came upon her door.
“Lily, Lily, get up.” I yell with excitement.
She startled out of bed, eyes wide looking around like she was in danger. Lily had dark circles under her eyes like she didn’t sleep at all. Wearing her dirty, rumpled clothes that she was wearing yesterday. Aww poor thing she must have had the worst night and I just made it worse by storming in here.
She jumped out of bed and put her hands in front of her like she meant no harm.
“I am so sorry Amy, I know you let me into your home and I did-“
“Wait, wait, wait.” I said Interrupting her. “What are you talking about?” I saw relief well up in her eyes. What had happened last night? But there were more important things to take care of so I let it slide.
“Don’t worry about anything, you have nothing to be sorry about. Lily, I have the best of news.” I was so excited that I just kept on going and going. “In my dream I remembered that when I was a little girl we used to go over to my mom’s friend’s house and she would tell us stories of a beautiful magical place.” I waited for her to see if she had put it together. She just looked at me blankly.
         “Don’t you get it?”
         “No,” she answered quietly back.
“She is the only other person that has heard of the Enchanted Lands and knows enough about it to tell us stories!” I almost squealed.
Lily hesitates before saying, “soooo she might know something about the Enchanted Lands that connects to humans. Since she moved here?”
         “Yes!”
I finally see a full on smile on her face. “We have to go there.”
“But there is one more thing I need to tell you.”
         “What?” Lily asks.
I take a deep breath. This is part I was dreading to tell her, I don’t know how she would react but I have to tell her. “She looks a lot like you but older.” I say, mustering up the courage to look back at her.
Lily looks like a ghost when she hears this.
“I know that’s a shock to hear, but I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it sooner. It’s so obvious.”
Lily just stares at the ground, expressionless. What is she thinking?
Lily looks up and finally asks “Where does she live?”
I am taken aback. She just found out that someone looked like her and she wanted to know where she lived?
         “Umm, Valley Oaks. Why?”
         Lily paled even more.
“What is it? Are you ok?”
“I’m fine, it’s just,” she sighs and says, “in my lost world textbook I saw a girl that looked like me and she lived in Valley Oaks. I just thought it was a coincidence but I’m thinking now that might not be true.”
Could Lily really be related to her?
“Oh, Lily!” I say in excitement. I move over and touch her leg. She tenses up at first but reflexes after a bit.
“Could I be related to her?” Lily asks.
“I don’t know. But I’m thinking she might be.”
Her face turned from shock to determination. “We have to go there.” She repeats again.
“I know, I’ll call Emmet and Alice over.” I turn to leave but Lily calls out “wait, maybe wait until they're awake?”  She says in a very small voice. I have never heard her say something that strong, maybe she’s warming up to me.
“Ok, you're right. What time is it?” I say.
Lily looks out the window, gets one quick glance at the sky and says “7:00” my eyes get wide in shock.
“You can tell the time by looking at the sky?!” I say in instanishment.
She looks surprised I even asked the question. “I can, that's how people tell the time in the Enchanted Lands. It’s easy as pie. Much easier than looking at a clock.”
“You have to teach me sometime.”
Lily laughs at that and it’s the most amazing thing in the world I have heard. It’s so sweet and filled with joy, almost magical. I have never heard her laugh before and I wanted her to do it more often. My face slowly curves into a smile.
“Sorry,” she says after she’s done laughing. “It’s just that in our world everyone knows how to do that. It’s like for you everyone knows how to brush their teeth. It’s like that. We just naturally know.”
“You have nothing to be sorry about, It’s nice hearing you laugh knowing that you're happy.” I say.
Her face fell into a frown and turned away from me. Did I go too far?
“I’m sorry, I can’t imagine what you feel right now. But don’t you deserve to have a little fun.”
“Amy, you don’t understand, I went to the police office or whatever you call it yesterday and they said that my real parents are dead.” Her voice wobbled and turned into a wimpier. Her voice studied more and said “but I don’t think that’s true, I think they're still alive in need of finding.”
“I am so sorry.” I wrap her in a much needed hug and she is at first hesitant but soon leans into it. “That's why we are going to help you find them, and we will find them,” I say conveniently.
“How do you know that?” Lily asks between sniffles.
“I don’t, you just have to have faith and believe that they're out there. Most likely if you somehow ended up in the Enchanted Lands they must have found a way to go there. Saying to the police that they were dead would be the best way to lay low and it would be the best way to describe why they were gone for so long. Maybe that person knows more about your mom.” I said. Theoretically this could be true, but most likely not. But I had to find something to cheer her up, I couldn’t stand seeing her like this.
Lily sat up and said, “I guess that could be true.”
“See, now get changed, you can use anything in that closet.” I said pointing to the guest closet where we always keep some extra clothes in case of swichations like this. “and come down stairs when you're ready. We got some packing to do.” I say with a smile on my face.
