I woke up to a soft knock on the… wait, that knock is not coming from the door. It was coming from the window! What the? I sat straight up, afraid that it was a person from the Enchanted Lands. It was not. I looked down and saw Emmet, he was still in his clothes from today. The moonlight shone down on him, making his hair look blonde. His smile touched the edge of his eyes.
What was he doing here? He looked up at me and he waved his hand. I was still frowning and putting my hands up in a “what” gesture. He waved his hand and mouthed “get down here.” But I couldn’t, what if Amy or her parents found me sneaking out? That would not be a very good impression on my first night.
I shook my head no. He mouthed “come on, it will only take a minute.” It was so hard to keep away from him. He was so nice. Well it will only take a minute, what could go wrong? So I found my shoes the best I could in the dark, and my coat. I tiptoed down the stairs, moving at a snail’s pace. But one of the stairs still made a squeaking noise. I froze. Listening to the whole house. I stayed there like that for a full 10 seconds, it felt like a decade staying there. But there was not a peep but for the crickets outside. I let out a breath that I have been holding the whole time. I moved outside of the house without anymore hiccups.
When I finally got down into the backyard. It looked like it was about midnight, but the moonlight lit most of the yard. The yard was pretty small compared to the Enchanted Lands, there were bushes with flowers on them that I could not name near the house. A tiny tree that looked like it was planted only a few days ago growing in the middle of the yard. I still couldn’t see all of Emmet, just his shadow a few feet away.
“Hi,” I said nervously looking down at my shoes.
“Hi,” he said.
“Ummm, what are you doing here,” I said in a whisper. I did not want to be rude but I really did want to know what he was doing here.
“Well,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand. A sign of nervousness, “I guess…”
“What?”
“I came to see you. To see how you were doing.”
I finally looked up and saw his sea green eyes, about hazel in the dark. Something about those eyes trapped me, trapped me in his caringness. I could see that he really did care about me and that he wanted to see how I was doing. those eyes made me happy. He… He… came to see me, wow! But why did he come to do this in the middle of the night? He could have done it in the afternoon.
“Well, I am ok. Kind of confusing but good.”
“Ya, if I would have left a world that I grew up in and came to a new world, I would have been confused too.”
“You have no idea,” I said. “But, ummm, did you really had to do that in the middle of the night?” I asked.
“I couldn’t wait to see you, when I went home I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”
I felt my cheeks heat up. I swear I was as red as a tomato. I looked down at my shoes, too shy to look him in the eye.
“Wow” I said.
“Anyway I wanted to ask, how was your life back in the Enchanted Lands?”
My heart hurt thinking about my life back then. Full of traitors. Even though I left two days ago it felt like yesterday when I just left. Wren, he was my best friend. I wondered what my family was doing now. Did they realize I was gone yet? We’re they trying to find me? Were they even worried about me?
“Ummmm, I don’t really want to talk about my family back there. It hurts to think about them”
“We don’t have to talk about your family, we could talk about the good things.”
“There’s not many good things. Now that I look back I realized that it was all a lie. My parents telling me that they are my real parents. Telling me that they love me. It was all a lie.” I said softly.
He closed the distance between us and found my hand with his warm hand.
“Well don’t worry because we are going to help you find your real parents and we are going to fix this.” Emmet said asurenly. Then he added “together”
All I could do was look at our touching hands. His hand was over mine, I liked the feel of his hand on mine. Much softer than Wren’s. He works with animals all the time so his hands are so ruff. Then he slowly moved his hand away from mine, leaving coldness behind.
“I should go.” Emmet said hastily.
I knew I should have said something but I couldn’t, I was frozen in what just happened. So he bowed his head and disappeared into the shadows.
I stood there a little bit drinking in the sweet night air and the smell of him that he left.

I couldn’t sleep a wink of what the night was left, all I thought about was Emmet. And if I would have slept I would have dreamt of him. A boy was never like this with me. With Wren it was different, we knew where we stood. We were never the touchy type of friends. What did it mean that he was acting like this with me? I would have to figure it out later. I kept on replaying the words he said, “we are going to fix this together.” I thought about the word together, together would be amazing. Both of us looking out for each other, it would be great help on the quest to look for my parents, and as they say the more the merrier! I will think about it more in the morning, for now I finally drifted into a very light sleep and it was a good thing two because something happened in the morning that was unexpected.
A/N: this is so cheesy, but I thought it was cute.
