"I was naive to think I would come back and everything would be a fairytale happy ending."

Nova
I open my eyes the sun light from the bedroom window shining down on me. I look around for Daisuke but he was no where to be seen, but
I could smell food.

I get out the bed and walk down stairs to Daisuke cooking breakfast. He only had on some jogging pants. The view was nice his back was facing me, I could see his back muscles flex as he moved.

There were nail marks on his back from last night, but there was one mark that wasn't from last night. It was a scar spread across the top right of his back; It looked like a it was a glass wound.

I walk up behind him wrapping my arms around his waist in a back hug. His skin was soft and warm against mine.

"Good morning." He says.

"Good morning, what you making?" I smile.

"Some pancakes there almost done."

I drag my finger across the scar and I feel his body stiffen.

"What happened?" I ask curiously.

"It's just an old scar from my dad."

"Your dad did this to you?"

"Yeah he was drunk and cut my back with a beer bottle."

I remember him mentioning his dad once before but not like this.

"Where is he now?"

"Six feet under." He says coldly.

"Oh, it's just you and your mom?"

"Yeah."

He turns around smiling at me but it looked like he was trying to hide the sadness and pain behind his eyes. I could tell because I use to do it. I look at his neck and noticed a burn scar covered by his tattoo. I touch the scar looking him in the eyes with sadness.

"Is this from your dad too?"

"Yeah."

"Just what did your dad do to you?"

"Whenever he got drunk he would abuse me, and that was every other night." He says softly.

"I'm so sorry you had to go through that Daisuke."  I say sincerely looking into his eyes.

Hearing him tell me about his dad made me realize I didn't know anything about his past. I don't even know his family, I've been away for so long we never got to really know each other.

"Here let's eat." he smiles trying to change the mood handing me the plate of pancakes.

I take the plate and sit at the island in the kitchen Daisuke sitting next to me with his plate. I take a bite of the pancake. It was warm and fluffy it tasted like perfection.

"This is so good Daisuke," I smile.

"Thank you I put extra-." His words are cut off by the door bell.

"Hold on," He gets up going to the door.

I could hear the faint sound of voices in the other room, it sounded like a woman. But I couldn't exactly hear what they were saying.

I get up going to the door to see Daisuke and a older Asian woman talking. She pushes her way though the door her eyes landing on me.

Chills ran down my spine as our eyes meet, I felt like I was in trouble for doing something wrong, her gaze was wicked like she wanted to hurt me.

"Who's this?"

"Don't worry about that, what do you want mom?" He asks annoyed.

"Tell me who this girl is right now," She insists.

"This is my girlfriend," He blurts with annoyance in his tone.

"Excuse me, she can't be your girlfriend you already have one." His mom says.

"Wait what?" I ask confused.

He already had a girlfriend? Did he really move on while I was away? The thought of him with someone else made me think about how unimportant I really was to him.

I mean for one I barely knew him and he's older than me he's probably been with way more girls than I can imagine, he is good looking.

"Honey you didn't know?" His mom asks.

"Know what?"

"My son is dating a beautiful Asian girl unlike yourself."

"Daisuke is that true?" I ask confusion in my voice.

"Yes and no, but I can explain," He says.

"What do you mean explain Sofia is your girlfriend there is no explanation." His mom says.

"What?" I ask tears forming in my eyes.

"I'm sorry sweetheart, but my son would never date anyone that looks like you, I mean you're.. black." She remarks rudely.

"Mom just be quiet."Daisuke warns.

"Oh wow okay, you know what I don't have time for this I'm just going to take my black ass home." I say emphasizing the word black and putting on my shoes.

I open the door Daisuke calls for me to come back, but I ignore him pulling out my phone and calling a Uber.

I walk out of the building and wait on my Uber, I was trying to hold in my tears. But they forced their way out dripping down my face. I was naive to think I would come back and everything would be a fairytale happy ending. News flash this isn't a fairytale fantasy.

This is my reality, I don't think I'll ever be happy. Do I even deserve to be at this point? I knew it was too good to be true. More tears start to pool in my eyes.

I see my Uber driver pull up and I wipe my tears trying to seem okay. I really didn't feel like talking right now.

The drive to my house was short and quite,  I walk inside and the house was dark and quiet no one was home. Perfect I have the house to myself, I walk up stairs to the bathroom.

I look at my reflection and I looked a hot mess my eyes were puffy and my hair was a mess. I looked like a Tom boy in Daisuke's shorts. And the hickeys from last night were still visible. Guess I'm going to be wearing turtle necks for a while.

I didn't want anything that reminded me of him. I turn on the shower. The sound of water splashing filling my ears.

Fuck I was in such a rush I forgot my bag it had some clothes most of my hygiene products in it. I'll figure out a way to get it later luckily I had some stuff left over from before I left. I undress and get in the shower.

The warm water felt relaxing on my skin. I sigh feeling the stress of the day leaving my body. Maybe this was for the best maybe we weren't meant to be. I think to myself reminiscing about the events of this morning.
