"We were in the same sinking boat nothing could change the fact. No matter her social status, how many nice things she had, not even her skin color. In this moment we were equal."

Nova

If I could summarize the past 12 hours in a taste, it would be salty. The oversized jacket I borrowed from Daisuke's closet would be salty. My damp messy curls, salty. My tired redden eyes, salty. Everything I had would be full of a bitter salty taste from all the tears I cried. My tears were the only thing I've been able to taste since I've been here.

These were the kind of tears that gave me a headache and made me dizzy. The kind where I sniffled and screamed so much I couldn't breathe anymore and all the screaming stole my voice.

My mind kept circling the question could Daisuke have something to do with Amir's death? I couldn't imagine him doing anything bad let alone killing someone. No matter how mad he was, he would never go that far.

"Sir you don't understand he needs to be let go, they took him away without any kind of explanation!" I say my voice raspy.

"I'm sorry ma'am there's nothing I can do he's in holding until he gets questioned and even after that I can't guarantee that they'll give him bail." The young officer at the desk says with a sympathetic look I sigh and go back to sit down.

I've been waiting at the Chicago police station since Daisuke was taken. This was my fifth time trying to get the clerk to let him go or let me see him.

This place reeked of coffee the kind of smell your nose doesn't go blind to and usually I didn't mind it but once the scent sat on my nose for so long my senses started to hate it. My mind will always associate coffee with this specific moment, this specific place.

There was also a lingering smell of cigarette smoke coming from the officers outside. And the dim light above me flickered every five seconds irritating my eyes. It was dark but the station was still buzzing with people coming in and out.

One person caught my eye as she walked through the door. She was a tall slim Asian woman, her clothing looked fresh out of a designer store with elegant jewelry to match she was the definition of a rich and classy woman.

She turns her head to where I'm sitting and catches me looking at her my eyes go wide in realization and I quickly look the other way. It was Daisuke's mother.

"I got a call that my son was in holding I know something can't be right." She scoffs to the man at the desk.

"Can I have his name please." He croaks indifferently.

      "Daisuke Lee."

The man doesn't even bother to check on the computer instead he looks over at me with a raised eyebrow.

"I told the lady over there everything I can about him five times already I really don't want to repeat myself." He frowns.

She looks over at me with pure disgust then looks back at the man.  "I have a right to know what's going on."

     "Well ask her." He sighs.

      "This is ridiculous." She yells.

"Tell me about it, I have people waiting behind you can you move?" He says unbothered by her.

She scoffs walking towards me and I sit up straight and wipe my eyes from leftover tears her presence alone made me anxious. Like I was already doing something wrong.

"What did you do to my son?" She frowns down at me.

"I didn't do anything." I say quietly my voice still sore.

"You had to do something my son has never been in trouble until you came."

"I can only tell you what I know but I will not tell you that I had something to do with it because I didn't." I state plainly, I didn't have the energy to deal with anymore shit.

"Well go ahead then." She sits down squinting at me like I was some type of tiny insect, inspecting my every detail.

I tell her what happened from him getting arrested to what they accused him of. I even told her who Amir was and how he died.

"You've been here this whole time just waiting?" She asks processing everything I told her.

I respond with a "yeah" as the automatic doors open to a familiar face I sigh in relief, it was Giovanni and his dad. His dad was a lawyer I called him not too long ago and he told me they were going to help.

I hug Giovanni tightly sinking into his comfort he smelled of caramel sweet and safe.

"How you feeling?" Giovanni asks holding me tightly around my waist.

"Better now that you're here." I smile coming from his embrace.

"Don't worry my dads going to take care of everything."

"Hey Greg." I smile giving him a hug he was a pretty big man my arms could barely fit around him.

"Hey sweetheart." He smiles patting my back.

"I'm Daisuke's mother may I ask who you are." She stand up addressing Greg.

"I'm Greg Martinez head lawyer at my firm I'm here to represent your son." He introduces himself giving her a hand shake.

"You did this for him?" She ask looking at me in surprise her eyes watery.

I nod and she grabs my hand, "Thank you."

"Of course," I smile.

"I have to go Giovanni stay here with Nova." He leaves Gio nodding at his fathers words.

"All we can do now is wait." She sighs her eyes glancing and the both of us as we sit down.

"Do you think he could do something like that?" She asks more to herself than us as she sits down.

"He couldn't have something isn't right." I say confidently, I knew daisuke couldn't have did it.

She nods her head in agreement, it seemed as though this might be the only thing we could agree on. We were in the same sinking boat nothing could change the fact. No matter her social status, how many nice things she had, not even her skin color. In this moment we were equal.

Before I knew it I was in Giovanni's arms fast asleep from crying so much his familiar scent calmed my nerves his relaxing presence made me feel as if everything was just a dream.
