Chapter Seven

"Who's we because I for sure don't know how to defeat that Vecna guy,"Erica piped up from behind her brother,cookie crumbs falling around her as she took a bite out of one.It was chocolate chip and although it had probably sat in Eddies trailer for god knows how long,it looked like the most delicious thing Robin had set her eyes on in a long time.

Not really surprising though as everyone had been so preoccupied with this monster stuff that she couldn't even remember the last proper meal that she had,let alone any sort of baked good.Last actual thing she must've had to eat were those pancakes at the Wheelers, which caused her stomach give out a noise as she bit down hard on her lip,hoping it would shut up soon.

"Well I do,and I'll explain it to you now,"Nancy sighed and rolled her eyes whilst simultaneously fluttering her lashes,something that she only did when she was in the worst mood possible and people were asking her questions,"now this might sound like the stupidest thing in the world but trust me on it."
The room fell silent,only the hum of the fridge could be hear somewhere in the background.
"You know how Vecna is a spell caster or something in DnD?"
All the others gave a nod,having already gone over exactly what Vecnas role is in DnD and then linking it to their real life situation.

"Well since he's kinda basically part of it,the whole entire game is also involved,which you guys must've guessed already,but not in the way you think,"the brunette said,watching as the others furrowed their eyebrows their gazes fixed on her face as she spoke,"the game is sort of like a portal or a timer,or at least that's what he showed me.Honestly what I'm about to tell you won't help with the whole 'DnD brought satan to Hawkins thing'."

Obviously people were still debating whether a little nerd game was a satanic ritual or not,which the Hellfire club and literally everyone else who had a brain though was complete blasphemy.There was no way of really proving that it wasn't something to be afraid of ever since these weird things began happening in Hawkins,especially these murders where peoples bones would snap as their eyes rolled to their back of their skulls.
But if it was true,what a terrifying way to promote a game.

"In order to defeat Vecna,we need to open a portal in which he is more vulnerable,which we can only do by setting candles around a DnD game which well,I don't even know,activate it?"Nancy sighed;even she looked lost in her own words.It sounded like the stupidest thing ever.Yeah just set a bunch of candles around something and wait for magic,it was ridiculous to believe but her face was straight with seriousness.

"Now after the candles are burning,we'll be able to kill him,as if the candles aren't burning,we can only harm him and slow him down a bit,"she said with such intensity that everyone thought she was wrong.
"That's it?Easy,"Steve said amusedly as if this was some game.Nancy gave a little shake of her head and took joy in the way the boys face dropped immediately,almost turning into a scowl.

"As I said,the candles and game are also like a timer.We can only be in the upside down as long as they're burning.So if they stop and we're still there:we're basically dead,because it cuts us off from real life." The entire room went quiet as she said that,glancing at each other as if to not disturb the silent awkwardness lingering in the air.Nothing could've made the situation worse.Nothing,yet just in the middle of there little thinking session,Robins still hungry stomach thought of a perfect time to make a noise,causing her to slowly sink down the chair she was sitting.

"Let's go and get some food,"she laughed weakly.

"So this Vecna guy basically wants us to play a game with him and it's like 'you have this much time,make it out alive before it ends or you're dead',"he mused sarcastically over a sesame bagel which seemed to just have bacon,egg and cheese.Perfect breakfast to prepare for battling a monster further in the day.
