Got this cute request idea, thank you :)
This will also be in Dreams pov since I think it fits better, hope that's okay!
______________Dreams pov
"Clay!" The barista announced, I gave her a soft smile and a hand wave, signaling the order was mine. "Have a good day!"
"You too!" I responded, taking the food and drink from the counter. My feet turned my body to look for a seat, not a single table was empty in this café.
After scanning for a moment I saw an empty table..well, half empty. Occupying the other seat was a girl reading a book, nose practically buried inside the pages. She looked sweet so I figured I'd give it a try.
"Do you mind if I sit with you? There's not a single empty table in here today." I asked, trying my best to not sound creepy and explain why I wanted to sit next to the pretty girl reading to herself.
"Sure." She mumbled, eyes not moving a centimeter from the pages. I awkwardly sat down, my leg began bouncing as I unwrapped my sandwich and took a bite.
"Do you come here often?"
'Do you come here often?' What the hell was that Clay, now you sound like a douchebag at a bar, say something else.
"I mean like, do you live around here?" I asked again.
"Yeah." She replied, flipping the page.
"Cool, cool...um, did you want something to eat? I see you only have a drink, I could get you something if you'd—"
"No." The way she said that reminded me of George. (Imagine George saying it like 'No<3' if you get what I mean, maybe? Maybe not?)
"That's fine too." A few moments of peaceful silence fell between us as I watched her eyelashes move as she read. Her e/c eyes so focused on the pages it makes me wonder how long she's been sitting here all alone, reading her life away.
Something about sitting next to her made me feel like life itself slowed, no rush, nowhere to be. Just living in the moment.
"What book are you reading?" I broke the silence, all she did was lift the book just enough for me to read the title, then brought it back down to rest on the edge of the table. "I've never read it, is it good?"
Am I annoying her?
"Very." She stated.
What will it take to get her to look at me?
Asking questions doesn't seem to be working.
"Are you sure you don't want anything to eat?" I asked, she looked up for only a brief moment to skim her eyes across the menu they had above the cash wrap.
"Glazed donut, they're my favorite."
Finally, more than two words in the same sentence.
"Coming right up." I smiled at the girl. I knew her favorite confectionery before even knowing her name. After ordering her food I once again waited in the swarm of people until my name was called.
"I have a strange question," I began, "Does the girl reading over at that table come here often?" I asked the barista, pointing to her.
"Pretty much every day, you seem interested?" She suggested, handing me the glazed donut.
"I am, I just can't get more than a few words out of her. Any advice?" I'd take anything at this point, no matter how ridiculous it sounded.
"Tell her your favorite author is Colleen Hoover, then you won't be able to get her to stop talking." She chuckled, I thanked her and made my way back to the table, taking a seat and setting the donut in front of her.
"Question," I began, my stomach tying in knots, she responded with a sweet 'hm?', "Have you ever read Colleen Hoover?" Her eyes went wide, instantly disconnecting from her book to me, excitement plastered all over her face.
"Of course I have! I'm surprised you know who she is!" She took a bite of the donut I had gotten her, happiness coursing through my veins.
"What's your favorite book?" I asked.
"It Ends With Us is always a good read, although Reminders of Him is a good one as well, what's yours?"
Oh shit.
One fatal flaw of my plan is...I had no idea who Colleen Hoover even was.
Come on, Clay, you got this.
"I actually just read Reminders of Him and thought it was really good so I'd have to agree." I responded, smooth. She smiled and closed her book, I now had her full attention.
"Not to sound weird or anything but me and my friends have a book club every Tuesday where we talk about our favorite books. Sometimes we do fun party games and stuff too, you should come!" How could I say no to her? Flashing her beautiful smile at me I caught myself staring at her features in an almost intoxicating way.
"Definitely! That sounds really fun!" My response only added to her excitement, causing her to grab a napkin and scribble some numbers down. After she slid it over to me she checked the time and began gathering her things.
"Here's my number, I actually have to go, final year in college things." She chuckled, standing up.
"Looks like I'll be seeing you on Tuesday," I paused, looking down at the napkin to see her name, "Y/n."
"See you then!" She chirped, waving as she walked away, donut and book in hand, "Thank you for the donut!"
"No problem." As she walked away I felt my smile getting wider, I can't believe I actually managed to pull that off.
Looks like I have forty-eight hours to read as many books as possible.
