Jin didn't know she was being tailed. It took about ten minutes to get on to Lake Washington Blvd. Normally it was a very scenic route, but at night it was all about the winding road. She rode a while, but with no jacket on it got cold quick. Not even intentionally doing so, she rode to where her mother and brother lived. She parked across the street and sat on the bike, just staring at the house. The lights were off, so probably her brother was partying with his crew and her mom was asleep or still at work. When a vehicle came down the road and parked behind her, she was surprised at who got out of it.
Jay didn't say a word, just handed her the leather jacket. She took off the helmet and gave it to him, while putting on the jacket. His SUV had music on inside and the sound of it drifted on the breeze towards them.
"Normally I don't have so much drama in my life. All I do is work, dance, eat and sleep," Jin explained. When he didn't say anything, she felt obligated to explain further. "This is where my mom and brother live. Before the age of sixteen, it's where I lived too."
Jay told her a little about himself, "when I lived here in Seattle as a kid, my parents struggled financially. After that dumb My Space shit, I came home but the hate followed me. When I went back to Korea, my parents still struggled. The bank took our house. For a while they lived with me, but now I have my own place, and my parents and brother live close by. I'm sure you've read or heard about it from social media."
She nodded. "You stepped up and took care of your family. I don't know why I chose to come here tonight. Maybe to close that chapter of my life, finally. When I left at sixteen I didn't look back, just kept moving forward. I missed the crew and my big brother. Before... he use to be cool."
He asked the obvious question, "before what?"
"I can't answer that right now."
"You don't have to tell me...." But he wanted her to. He wanted her to trust him.
"Too long of a story and I'm sure you've got better places to be," she avoided. But then added, "maybe one day. What about you, any dark secrets?"
He smiled, "you share, then I'll share."
She grinned and held out her hand, "shake on that."
Jay shook her hand. "Ready to go back?"
"My guess is that Sunny and Mike are still needing personal time. I'm okay to ride back alone if you want to go."
"Let's go to a club," Jay said instead. "Ride home and I'll drive us. If those two want to come, then I've got plenty of room."
"Okay, that's cool." She put the helmet back on. "Thanks for coming to find me."
He heard her just fine, "no problem."
When they got back to her apartment, they went upstairs. Mike had left a note, that Sunny was at his place. Jin smirked, "I'll text him that his keys are here. Let me just change quick."
