On the last day of her hospital stay, Jay was shown by the nurses how to remove the bandage on Jin's head. When he saw the patch of missing hair, a laugh almost escaped his lips. But the nurse noticed and negated that. They insisted she leave using a wheelchair, even though Jin protested. Simon D had the SUV waiting for her, so she didn't have to walk far. Both guys helped her into the vehicle, as if she was made of valuable porcelain.
"I can't wait to take a shower and eat food that tastes better than cardboard," Jin sighed.
"Since we have to return to the office, my mom is waiting for you at my house. She'll help you."
When Jin didn't say anything, Simon D looked in the rear-view mirror and saw her wipe her eyes. What Jin didn't know, was that the guys and staff of AOMG were planning a surprise welcome home party for Jin. Jay's mom would be the one bringing her to Simon D's, once everything was ready.
"Dear is all your clothing pants?" Jay's mother asked Jin.
She was embarrassed, "well I had one dress, but it's ruined now."
"Dresses are easier to get in and out of on your own, while you are still healing. Do you feel like going shopping, or would you rather just give me your sizes?"
"The doctor did say I could walk 30 minutes a day and I would love to go shopping with you," Jin replied.
When they arrived at the mall and began shopping for dresses, Jin was shy. She hadn't gone shopping with her mother, since she was ten. She had a basic idea of what she looked good in, but knew nothing about design, comfort, low maintenance fabric or anything else. Jay's mother guided her through the whole process, making sure that Jin didn't push her endurance too much.
"This is a good selection. Flat shoes and sandals will go with all of these dresses. Do you have anything like that?"
Jin shook her head, "I have one pair of sandals and one set of dress shoes. But my back is a little sore, more shopping will have to wait another day. Thank you so much for everything."
On the car ride back to Jay's, his mother abruptly said, "I thank you. Jay told us what really happened and we saw the video online.... if you hadn't.... he would've...."
"I was just at the right place at the right time." Jin was feeling awkward with the emotion that Jay's mom was displaying.
"Thank you, dear."
By the time they got back to Jay's house, Jin was tired and sore. She politely excused herself and slowly went upstairs to lie down. Jin didn't wake when Jay's mom hung up the dresses, tags removed, in the closet. Mrs. Park checked the shoe sizes in the closet and smiled to herself. She called her son and explained about the shopping and Jin's nap. They confirmed the time that Jin should be brought to Simon D's house.
"Mom, is she up to coming here tonight?" Jay asked.
"She's fine. A little rest and we'll be right over."
Jay thanked his mom and hung up. He checked with Simon D that everything was ready. While he was doing that he got a call from the AOMG office. "Hello?"
"Jay, some old lady called in asking for you to call her. She claims she's Jin Bong's grandmother."
"What's the number?" Jay asked and waited for the digits. He hung up and check the number online, the name that came up was a listed landline number. And he recognized the name, from when she'd introduced herself to Jin.
He called the number and got voice mail. Jay left his cell number on the answering machine, wondering if he should invite the woman to the party tonight. He called his mom back to ask her opinion and she suggested he wait to set up another time. Jay asked if Jin was awake yet and his mom said they'd be there in thirty minutes. Once he was off the phone, he announced to the waiting people, Jin was on her way.
