"Seokjin, are you really certain that you do not want a private room? This is something that can be changed. Why don't you let your dad and I buy you an apartment? It will be yours. I would choose that option over this one any day." Seokjin's mother, Kim Ji-Sook, said these words as she scowled her way into the university dorm room that her son was supposed to call home.
"Ji-Sook, we agreed that he would have a complete university experience, and he wants to sample dorm living for at least the first semester," said Kim Min-Woo as he gazed at his wife.
"Yes, but this is such a little thing. Look at the bed; he has to share this room with another human. Our Seokjin isn't used to being treated this way. Sweetie, please tell me you agree with me. Don't you want to have your own place to live? Or even a home? We will purchase a home for you.
There is also the option of hiring a chauffeur to drive you to school. I don't want you using public transit whatsoever. I've been told that such things are revolting. Please allow me to phone one of my assistants; they ought to be able to locate a suitable location within the next 10 minutes-"
"Mom, dad is correct; I want to experience what it's like to live in a dorm. You are right, it is totally different, but I want to test it out. If I do not like it, I will let you know. I promise."
Ji-Sook pouted immediately, "but this is so small. Where are we going to fit all your clothes? Are you supposed to share that closet? When your dad and I went here, we didn't use the dorms. I don't get why you want to."
"Ji-Sook, it's been decided. Our son wants to stay in the dorm, and we will let him."
"Fine. What's the name of your roommate? We need to have a background check done on them. I won't be comfortable with you staying with just anyone."
"The background check was already done. His name is Park Jimin, and he is here on a scholarship. All checked out well with him."
As soon as she heard it, Ji-Sook let out a sigh of relief and said, "okay, that's excellent. What about his family; was there also a check done for them?
"Mom. You promised me that you wouldn't do all of this?"
"Seokjin, sweetheart, this world is full of a lot of individuals who are completely insane. I will not allow my kid to be in the company of any crazy people. During the time that you are here, I anticipate that you will always maintain your focus and avoid being involved with anybody. These individuals are not on the same level as you. Remember that, thank you very much."
Jin smiled and nodded, "I know, mom, thank you. You don't have to worry. I have never disappointed you or dad."
"Baby, there is no way you could. Your father and I are happy to have you as a son in our family. I am well aware of how wonderful you are; it's the other individuals I am concerned about; they are not even close to being as good as you. Do you know how difficult it has been for me to decide amongst the men we know which one will one day be your husband? I keep seeing flaws in every one of them. I am relieved that I have at least four years to work on a solution for you."
"You don't have to work so hard, mom. I am sure it will work out. Dad said I don't have to get married right after university either-"
"He said what? No, that's wrong. You will get married right after. Being young and single is not a trend you will follow."
Min-Woo gave his wife a questioning glance before shaking his head and asking, "honey, should we help Seokjin unpack?"
"Yes, but I don't believe the closet is big enough to hold everything. He needs a room upgrade. If he has a strong desire to take that roommate with him, I have no problem with it, but they will need a bigger room. This is something that I cannot allow to happen to our baby. Are you able to get a handle on it?"
