Riley POV"Riley, you ready?" My mom asked from downstairs. "I'll be down in a few, mom." I responded. I finish getting dressed and go downstairs to join my family for breakfast. "Be sure to be safe, today the," Mom paused just to gag, "Zombies are getting integrated into your school.". "Oh come on mom, it cannot be that bad." I responded, giving her a look. "Just, be careful." She replied. I finished my breakfast, put on my backpack, and headed out side. 'Why are people singing?' I thought. 'It's way too early for this'.
Addison
I'm fired up!
Tryouts today
I'm gonna blow 'em away
Dad says I can't go wrong
As long I keep this on
Seabrook's been the best like forever!
Mom's counting on me no pressure
Cheer's in my family genes
Come on let's do this thing!"Of course Addie's starting it." I said to myself, walking away. I got to school and it looks like the songs over. 'Thank goodness.' I thought. I looked over to the fence separating the zombies and saw someone looking back at me. 'He's hot' I said to myself, flashing him a smile. He smiled back and boy was it beautiful. 'Okay, I need to stop acting like a girl in a romcom and get to class'.
"Hey, Riles." Addie said to me. "Hi, Addie." Me and Addie have been friends since the 2nd grade, we're kinda inseparable now. We walked and talked together because we had the same first period. "My cousins not very excited to be having zombies in our school." Addie said. "Well, who cares what he or anyone else thinks, one of them is pretty cute." I said, lowering my voice saying that last part. "Ooooooooh." Addie responded, making me laugh.
People don't like different in Seabrook, unfortunately I had something I couldn't hide, Vitiligo. It's where the skin loses its pigment cells and it causes me to have patches on my body where my dark skin is disrupted by a different pigment of skin tone. People do pick on me because of it, but fortunately for me Addie's always got my back.
After all, she knows what it's like to be different too. Addie wears a wig to cover up her white hair, nobody knows why she has it. I think it makes her look beautiful, but she thinks otherwise.
Zed POV
"I'm Principal Lee, We are thrilled to be forced to have," She squealed, trying to squeeze between two zombie students. "you here. Do not leave the basement. Okay, have a great year." She said, obviously barely meaning it. "Principal Lee," I started, "I was just wondering, how do I try out for the football team?"
"And the computer coding club?" Eliza added.
"Grusic." Bongo said.
"Let me ask you this. Do any of these involve leaving the basement?" Principal Lee said. "Well, yeah I guess." I replied. "Then I guess, you don't. So no tryouts for you. I am sorry. I don't mean it. Have a great day. That's just an expression. EXCUSE me." Principal Lee said, squeezing past us.
While everyone payed attention to the janitor, now teacher, I snuck out. Unfortunately I hit my leg on a metal shelf causing me to limp. That caused someone to yelp and assume I was a rogue zombie, setting of the Z-Alarm. I booked it to the nearest zombie safe room because some jocks were trying to catch me.
Riley POV
I walked into the zombie safe room after, Addie and her new friend screamed at something behind me, I don't know what it was, but it made them run off. As I closed the door behind me someone hid behind a box, "Hello?" I said. "Hello?" Someone responded. "Hello?" I repeated. "Why, hello." The person said back. "Don't any ideas buster, the only thing deadlier than my high kick is my low kick." I said.
"Sorry, this just wasn't how I was expecting my first day at a new school to be like." He responded. "You didn't expect to locked in a zombie safe room?" I asked. "Oh, no I expected that it's sort of my thang." He said, earning him a chuckle from me. "So I'm not gonna get low kicked?" He said. "You're safe for now." I said.
We both walked towards each other making small talk, when all of the sudden the lights came back on, revealing Zed was a zombie. "Oh, your a zombie." I said. "Yeah...I am." He said, seeming hurt. "Oh, no, no, no, I didn't mean it like that!" I said. "My parents taught me that zombies are cold, undead, freaks, but your not hideous at all." I said.
"I'll take that." He said, laughing. We stayed in the safe room getting to know each other more. 'Dammit, the more he talks, the more I fall for him' I thought. "Oh crap, I forgot I gotta get to football tryouts!" Zed exclaimed. "Well, then I wish you luck." I said, kissing him on the cheek. Zed was stunned and so was I, "C-catch ya later." I said, awkwardly walking out. 'Ughhhh, I'm such an idiot, why did I do that!' I thought to myself.
