The day before the trial
"I'm sorry Jungkook, but I had to-"
"Y-you killed her!?"
"Not really"
As if things weren't a mess already, Daejung's composed response only made them worse as waves of uncertainty now crashed against Jungkook's deliberation and he looked up at the doctor with wet, baffled eyes. No words left his mouth, only a scowl of indecision flickering in his eyes. He just saw Y/N's heart stop, didn't he?
Layers of doubts piled up in his mind. However, much to Jungkook's dismay, an oddly relaxed Daejung stepped forward and took a hold of his arms prompting him to stand back up and as the latter reluctantly did so, his gaze never once left the doctor's face for he needed answers and he needed them quick.
"What are you talking about? You yourself detached her from her life supports just now!"
Jungkook very much expected Daejung to succumb to his accusation but the doctor instead let out a small chuckle before pulling the confused boy over to the figure of Y/N lying on the bed. He then instinctively dragged Jungkook's hand to Y/N's wrist before pressing his fingers on a particular spot. And as he did that, Jungkook's eyes widened for he felt Y/N's pulse against his own skin, loud and clear.
"You thought I killed my own patient? I am very much offended at that Lieutenant Jeon" a sarcastic Daejung let out a small side grin. Seeing Jungkook awfully distracted under the weights of all the overwhelming emotions, he didn't wait for the happy man to ask for his clarifications. He began to proffer them anyways.
"I only removed the life supports from her because Miss Y/N doesn't need them anymore. See, she's breathing on her own now. Your girl is just fine Jungkook" Daejung softly patted Jungkook's shoulder making the previously desolated boy gain back his sanity and his smile. Disregarding the doctor's apprehension he climbed with his outside clothes on to Y/N's bed clutching her body, which was now radiating a comforting warmth that he missed so much, close to his own. He almost believed that he had lost her forever and apparently for him, being proven wrong never felt so right.
"But why is her heart monitor still showing a straight line and making that horrible noise?" he asked only to be flashed with another side grin.
"That's because I detached it from her without first cutting off the power source. You see, no body, no beat" pulling the disconnected chord in front of Jungkook's face the doctor shrugged before turning off the noisy machine and things started to make sense. Clearly Y/N wasn't in a coma anymore, and certainly, she wasn't dead. If anything she was just sleeping safe and soundly in Jungkook's arms and the latter? Well, he was waltzing on cloud 9.
