The next day is awkward, especially the next day as I realise I am quite genuinely the only member of Alpha Tauri other than Pierre travelling back to Milan on the Tuesday and so the car that came to collect me and take me to the airport...actually collected both of us...and it's about a forty-five-minute car drive from Monaco to Nice
However, we seemed to have come to some sort of unspoken agreement wherein we didn't speak to one another. Not a single word. Just a common exchange of a scowl and occasionally we would sigh at one another, but neither of us made a sound other than that and apart from the scowl, we didn't acknowledge one another's existence.
That was made harder when we got to the plane and found out that my ticket had been boosted and I would now be flying Business Class with Pierre. But once more, neither of us said anything. I just smiled thankfully at the lady as we weighed our bags, for some reason sticking together even once we got to the airport.
When we were done with that, we went through security together. Both glum and not standing that close to one another but definitely together, both going out of our way to avoid being split into lanes away from one another. We walk through the airport together, stopping whenever one of us stops to look around the shop before promptly falling back into step as we make our way to the gate. I found it kind go amusing, I had expected Pierre to walk off and I would simply find him at the gate later when I made my way there but no, when I walked into the first shop to have a look around I was surprised and pleased to see him stood outside still, not even looking up from his phone when I went back to where he was stood as we carried on walking.
As Pierre is...Pierre, once spotted we are both hurried onto the empty plane and taken to the back, where business class is in this plane and we take our seats next to one another.
Mentally I'm going crazy because I think this is the longest I have ever gone not speaking while in the presence of someone else. People file in and still nothing as we sit next to each other wordlessly, both of us just flicking through different apps on our phones, Pierre is on Instagram every time I look over at him. Just as I go to say something, mainly to check that I can still talk, an announcement comes on over the speaker and it's not what I want to hear. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We're having some issues with the runway and may be slightly delayed leaving Nice airport. I apologise for the inconvenience and assure you that this will be remedied as soon as possible and we will hopefully be departing shortly." I hold in a groan as the announcement is done in French before they switch to English and only then do I let out the sound of annoyance as I look around.
I let my head fall to the side and I look at Pierre who seems to be making a point of staring straight ahead and ignoring my existence, nothing new but I'm extremely bored right now and feel as though I have nothing to lose by annoying the Frenchman who has made it extremely clear on multiple occasions that he doesn't like me. "Pssst," I say leaning into his personal space to try and get his attention, for the briefest of seconds I see the corner of his mouth twitch into what was almost a smile before he manages to go back to his passive face. I narrow my eyes at him, annoyed and seeing the challenge and properly turn in my seat to face him, bringing one leg up and bending it so I can see him better. I know he can see me in the corner of his eyes, as a driver he has to have good peripheral vision. I tilt my head to the side as I observe him before leaning in slightly and trying again. "Psssssssst," again, there's a flicker of his mouth before I see his brow furrow and his stare intensify in front of him as though he is deep in concentration.
I narrow my eyes once more, putting my hands on the armrest separating us as I lean forward once more, mouth just inches from his ear as I go again. "Psssssssssssssssssst, Pierre!" I whisper yell to him and he snaps his head around to meet mine, his nose just a centimetre away from mine and I suddenly realise that I didn't think this through in the slightest.
