CHAPTER TWENTY SIX: Occurring Events

"Why are you keeping me here?!"

I looked at her, the only White Crawler in the whole pack of Dalaysian creatures. Kulang na lang pumutok na ang ugat ko sa pagtitimpi.

"I swear, Selene. This is called abduction! I did not consent to you to trap me in this cave and forbid me to go home...I badly need to go home!"

Frustration is evident in my face. I had been begging her to return me home for the last three days, yet she's too strong with her order.

I don't even know if I will remain alive if I step a foot outside this Cave. There are a lot of Crawlers howling outside and that sound terrifies me the most.

"I have a daughter, Selene. She is not used to not seeing me even for a minute. Kailangan kong umuwi para sa anak ko."

I had been reasoning out for the past few days. But, Selene...she's too stubborn. Ayaw niya akong ibalik sa Sari Village, at alam kung hinahanap na ako nila Teirro ngayon.

I can imagine how worried Teirro has on his face. This is the least possible thing he wanted to happen, and I freaking swear he already told the Duke regarding my disappearance.

If Vyrre knew I was gone, it would be a burden I don't want him to carry. Ayaw kong makaapekto ang kalagayan ko sa problemang kinakaharap niya.

I'm also worried about the Duchy, about my business and especially about Sofia. Hindi sanay ang bata na hindi niya ako nakikita araw-araw. Just by thinking about it, I wanted to cry.

'Your kind had been spraying water in the forest for the last three days. My pack cannot stand even a drip of water, Milady. I don't want to send you back alone either, so as long as the forest is dry, I will personally see you off.'

Bumagsak na ng tuluyan ang balikat ko.

She's right. The Crawlers relocated far away from the village. Hindi sila makabalik sa dati nilang lokasyon dahil kasali ito sa mga lugar na nasunog.

I understand that she's trying to secure my safety, but I badly need to go home. A lot of people are waiting for me. Hindi ako pwedeng mawala ng matagal dahil alam kung babaliktarin ni Teirro ang buong Dior para mahanap ako.

'I apologize, Milady. The safety of my kind is important, although you are twice as valuable than mine...I cannot risk traveling alone nor leave you somewhere else and strangers may take advantage of your gift.'

"You are guilt tripping me," sagot ko.

'If that is what it is, then I apologize...I will command my kind to track down the scoopers. If we can secure a path for us to travel with you, we will leave immediately.'

"Fine...thank you for protecting me, Selene. it is truly a fact that Crawlers don't hurt humans unless provoked."

'I appreciate your thoughtful statement, Milady. However, there are types of our kind that chooses to violate that law under their own accord. It just happened that you meet me rather than those I wish for you not to encounter.'

"I will definitely repay your kindness," I said.

She didn't say anything else and just gave me a quick glance before she left. I was left again in this dark cave with only a bonfire as its light.

The air is chill and the stone walls are cold. I thanked Selene for keeping me warm during those days. Also, they gave me a few fruits for nutrients, though I was having a hard time eating because there was no water. I can feel I am dehydrated, but I can't ask even a drop knowing that it can hurt them.
