CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT : Hold Hands

Liana Hellery Domingo

When my consciousness rose up, I couldn't move. I felt like I was lying on a soft bed. It's like I am paralyzed. My whole body cannot move, my muscles stiffened but I am conscious.

From a distance, I can hear the beeping of a machine. There was music playing somewhere. A soft melody of a piano resonated in my ears, along with some weird footsteps of people I don't recognize.

I tried to move my fingers, my toes. I tried sending every joint of my body some signal to move. Even though I cannot move my head, my mind had been picturing out I lifted my body.

I felt like I was frozen in this state, but I am not cold. After succeeding errors, I finally lifted one of my fingers, then my eyelids moved as I opened and shut my eyes in the process.

Then, someone suddenly grabbed my arm. My instinct ruled and tried to move it away but I couldn't. I heard a voice, it sounded like a slow mo version.

I didn't understand what it said.

Then, I heard multiple footsteps, they began to bleed my ears. I can hear loud banging of shoes on the floor, like they were giants.

Afterwards, there was a light flashing through my eyes as someone helped me open my eyelids for a closer look. I moved my eyeballs to avoid such light.

As I officially opened my eyes, I saw figures of people. A person in his laboratory gown looked at me with gladness and surprise. Then, someone was behind him, a woman wearing a nurse outfit.

On my right side, a man in his checkered polo. He looks old with those wrinkles on his face, and his teary eyes met mine.

"Liana, anak?" he spoke.

I didn't quite understand that.

My eyes diverted to the woman beside him. She has shoulder length hair, wearing eyeglasses, and looking at me with tears cascading on her cheeks.

Her hand clasped together. "Liana?"

Liana, that name sounded familiar. I felt my head creased as I thought of where I heard it.

I didn't understand what I heard next because I suddenly felt very sleepy. I closed my eyes to rest but I woke up again and noticed no one was in the room.

From time to time, a nurse visits me for a check up.

There was a time she spoke.

"You are a lucky girl."

I just stared at her, didn't even bother telling her to expound that, but it looks like she has a loose tongue.

"You arrived in the hospital 10 months ago. A serious brain injury caused you to be in a coma in those months. Three weeks ago, the doctor monitored a sign of brain stimulation and put you into observation. And now, you're finally here."

She doesn't sound uplifting but her face showed ease. She left afterwards after noticing I am not into a prolonged conversation.

After a couple of hours, I can already move my entire body.
