"Is it just me or are you extra clumsy today?" Kotoko remarked, chewing cereal from behind a comic book. I swallowed and apologized, picking the fallen bits of breakfast off her lap.

"I'm so sorry. By the way...how are you feeling today?"

"Huh?" She said, not looking up. She flipped the page, reading the aggresive illustration of a man with a whirring chainsaw head.
"Why're you asking all of a sudden?"

"N-No...it's just-"

"Don't you worry, Big sis Y/N," Monaca winked, patting me knowingly on the back.
Kotoko appeared to be absorbed into her manga and payed us no attention.

"Kotoko gets worked up over just a little word, but it doesn't take her much time to calm down! In fact, she doesn't even remember last night probably!"

I forced a smile and nodded, walking back into the kitchen.

I sighed and whipped the scarf of my neck, which was sweating profusely. My collarbones and neck along with upper shoulders were covered in dark red love bites. These kids had undoubtedly seen some things and the cliche mosquito bite excuse was too overused.

"Are those bruises?" A monotonous familiar voice said behind me, making me jump. But Jataro stood there, holding his empty breakfast plate. I quickly put the scarf back on and nodded.

"Ah...yes. They're bruises owing to the punishments I got for...you know what."

"That's sad. Big sisses who change sides get punished. But it's fine now. You're going to live with us from now on, right?"

"U-Um...yes."

"Do you hate me, Big Sis Y/N?"

"Hate you? No...of course not! Why would I hate you?"

"Because I'm not like the other kids, you know? I'm introverted, stupid, irritating, ugly...half of the time, people don't even remember my name..."

"But I do! I know you, Jataro! You're not ugly or stupid...or any of that. You're a lot like Mister Servant...huh?"

"Like him?" Jataro questioned curiously, his eyes widening from behind his mask. "But even Mister Servant's a little handsome..."

"It's not about looks!" I ushered, caressing his jagged jute head. "it's about personality. You guys hate adults so much because of what they did to you in the past, but you're still kind enough to have let me and Mister Servant stay here, even if not for free."

"Yeah actually...I was the one who advocated that," Jataro replied. "Even if you are a devil, you're still Big Sis Enoshima. Big Sis Junko wouldn't have wanted us to execute you."

Seeing one of my barriers all emotionally softened like this, I decided to take my chance. I knelt down and placed a hand on his shoulder, pondering while I prepared my request in my head.
Mister Servant was outside the castle with Nagisa. Masaru, Kotoko and Monaca would disappear into their playroom after breakfast, leaving Jataro behind as usual. This really is a priceless opportunity.

"Hey, Jataro. Do you have anything to do right now?"

"Wha..at?" He said in his usual, lethargic manner. "no. There's never anything to do...not for someone who's always left behind..."

"Do you want to go outside and play?"

"Play?" His light yellow eyes lit up immediately. "No one's ever asked me to come play with them... although I don't know how the other guys would feel about that..."

"We don't have to tell them!" I hushed, squeezing his shoulders pursuasively.
"They'd become jealous and take that away from you too! It could be our little...secret game!"
