Once I brushed my teeth and stepped out of the door, I saw Kamakura. His back was turned to me as he leaned over the railing, watching the scene below.
He must have detected ny presence because he turned around. His voluminous locks were tied up in a bun and he seemed grimmer than usual. But the dark circles in his eyes had ceased a little, as if he had slept well.
"You buried the key under the roses,"
Was the first thing he said to me."Did I now? The key to what?"
He frowned, stepping away from the railing.
"The key to Togami's dungeon. It's under the roses. I glimpsed that little scene you had with the Servant out of my bedroom window. You might want to limit displays like that within your own private chambers.""What the-"
"Behave yourself during breakfast," he ordered, stepping down the stairs.
"Don't act like a surly pest.""You aren't the boss of me-!" I repudiated angrily. Is it just me, or is he ten times more annoying this morning?
I hadn't done many missions, seeing most of the Future Foundation core were forced to reside behind protective walls. There was a snake twisting inside my stomach and it got worse while I ate. I was sitting between Tsumiki and Kamakura, waiting for my food to be served. A short chef walked into the dining hall and I absent-mindedly skimmed my eyes over, not thinking much. Then with a jolt I looked back; and it felt like thunder stuck my gut.
"YOU-!" I exclaimed loudly, pointing a finger at him and standing up so quickly that I knocked my chair off its legs.
"Pray, do mine eyes lie to me?" He stared at me in wonder. "It's you, my late momma's employee! How've you been all this while?"
A boiling fury bubbled inside my stomach like larva. The anxiety I already had thanks to the plan I would have to carry out tonight made the snake inside me twist worse. The worst part was he was a striking image of his mother- that chubby, cheerful face; beady eyes and brown hair:
"Is...is something wrong?" Tsumiki looked around meekly.
I felt the Ultimate Talent's eyes burn into my nape. He had just told me not to make a scene...and truth be told it actually made me feel guilty for disobeying him. He was trying his best to aid me, even if there's probably nothing in it for him...
I pulled my chair off the floor and sat back down quietly, forcing myself to glare down at the empty plate. Fourteen more hours, I reminded myself over and over.
Bear fourteen more hours of this and it'll be over. After breakfast, I realised I had nothing to do but kill time until it was time to leave. I lingered about in the garden barefoot, feeling the ticklish stimuli of the grass underneath my soles.
I don't remember the last time I spread my feet over dewy, lushy grass like this. I'm not going to pretend it wasn't pleasant. I saw a swing made out of a tire and jute rope swinging negligibly to and fro under an oaken tree.Back in my old house when I still lived with Mom and Dad, we had a swing in our backyard as well. It was made of leather and chains, not raw materials. I wish my mother could push me high into they sky right about now.
But I can't go that high myself...I can't go hurling into the sky anymore because there's no one left and nothing to go on-"Want me to push you?"
I didn't have to turn around to recognise that voice.
"Didn't see you come around." I replied monotonously.
"That's because you were zoning out again. I won't ask what's wrong, seeing you probably won't tell me, but I can't leave you be."
"Why?"
