"'Willing to be useful??'" I repeated in confusion.
"Whatever do you mean by that?""Well, little girl," the strange man said in his gruff voice. "I noticed you were travelling with the brats' advocate. I watched the both of you come out of the castle where the snot-nosed vermin live. Even if you don't want to, you'll have to co-operate with me."
"I don't understand you-"
"I'm saying if you don't help us kill those monsters," the man's light colored lenses flashed, sending chills up my spine.
"Then you'll be the one getting killed.""What's all this about killing?!" A pure white Monokuma hopped into the room, its fur encrusted with dirt and dried blood. "I'm sure we can solve it peacefully!"
It...can talk?"Oi! Behind you! They're a Monoku-!"
"That's Shirokuma; stop screaming, woman," the man said.
"He's got a specialised AI inside of him, which instills all human emotions and feelings. He's an ally."I stared at the both of them in disbelief. I had seen creatures like Shirokuma tear apart people's limbs from their torsos and use their intestines as skipping ropes. I half expected the bleached robot to shoot out an arm and behead the man with the cast with it.
"We're befriending these things now?" I said weakly, still giving the pair a wide berth. "Who are you, anyway?"
"The name's Haiji Towa. And no, I'm befriending these things now. We're not on the same team until you prove that you can be-"
"IT'S HER!" A girl shrieked, running into the room in a blur of enthusiasm. "Toko, Toko, she's here!"
"Komaru!" I exclaimed in surprise. She ran towards me and pulled me into a hug, her warm heavy breaths blowing in my ears. Her arms wrapped around me tightly.
I saw Toko standing at the doorway, her usually gloomy face looking a tiny bit relieved. When it comes to accepting feelings, Toko and Byakuya are not very different.
"We're running into too many high school girls recently, aren't we?" Haiji muttered under his breath.
"How did you escape?" Komaru said, after letting go. "I'm so happy, but I can't see Mister Byakuya or that strange man..."
"No, no, you've got it wrong. I was going somewhere with Mister Servant, but we got separated in a crowd rush and I'm not sure where he is right now..."
"Also," I turned to Toko. "I talked to Mister Byakuya. He's still in the dungeons but I've brought him food everytime I got the chance-"
Toko's eyes started welling up. She kneeled on the ground as if to steady herself, overflowed with solace.
"Mister... Byakuya? He's- okay?"
"He's fine. He's very strong. He'll get through this, just like we will. Don't lose hope."
"Right." Komaru smiled. "We don't have much time. Let's decide on the date when we'll carry out our masterplan."
"What are you talking about?"
"The day when we'll be meeting. When me and Toko ask the Future Foundation to come get us, we'll give them a specific date. That day will be the date that all five of us will reunite. Me, Toko, You, Byakuya, and the Servant person."
"Right. I'll have to find a way to escape by then."
"Mhm-hm. Hey Haiji, what's the date today?"
"It's the 2nd of November."
Haiji replied, checking his watch."Okay. 14th of December, how does that sound to you, Y/N?"
"That gives me more than a month," I said after thinking. "I think it's more than enough. I'll do my best."
