Eden sprung from her bed, the sound of her alarm jolting her awake. As the last remnants of sleep fell away, she glanced at the clock, a cold dread settling in her stomach. She was already late. Again. Eden knew Matt was at his wits' end with her chronic tardiness, but she couldn't shake the morning fog that plagued her every day. Still, she had to try - not just for her job, but for her own self-respect.
She turns the alarm off and groans as she yanks off the covers, her body shivering from the cold. Eden's apartment was a study in organized chaos, with a sea of discarded clothing, and half read books covering the floor like a haphazard carpet.
She trips over a pair of sneakers on her way to the closet, muttering a string of expletives under her breath.
Desperately searching her closet, Eden's gaze fell upon the faded gray blazer and slacks from her high school debate team days. The ensemble was far from stylish, but time was running short and the suit would have to do. Throwing it on, she sprinted out the door and raced toward the office.
Luckily for her, she only lives five minutes away. As she enters the office building, she can hear two familiar voices. One, Matt Murdock, and two, Foggy Nelson. "Matt?".
"Eden! Thank God. Matt has been driving me insane with this whole spider-man debacle," Foggy leans against the front of his desk, crossing his arms in clear frustration.
"Spider-man debacle?" Eden asks, raising her eyebrows.
"Spider-man has asked for our help."
"Woah, seriously?" Matt nods his head with a little chuckle, before handing Eden the file. She scanned the file, her eyes darting across pages.
"Yeah. It's a whole mess," Foggy sits down and starts to rub the corners of his forehead with the hope of easing his stress.
"Apparently his identity is out and the whole world knows who is. He's actually just about your age, Eden," Matt interjects.
"No way. How old?"
"16 or 17. Couldn't really hear his aunt over the phone. There was a lot of yelling and shouting."
"Woah, did not expect him to be so young!" Eden would never admit this, but in her quiet moments, Eden found herself delving into the mystery of Spider-Man's identity and motivations. The internet was rife with theories and speculation, but Eden had her own ideas - she was drawn to the notion of a masked vigilante, someone who had sacrificed a normal life to fight for justice. She wanted to believe that there was something noble and pure in that choice - that it was a choice she might have made herself, if she had been given the chance.
"It's for sure a surprise but you and I are going to Queens first thing tomorrow morning."
"What about Foggy?"
"He's going to make some calls here, and do his thing."
Foggy nods but mutters underneath his breath. "I wish I got to meet the real life spider-man."
"Right right. Um, so exactly what time are we talking?"
"Six."
"Six in the morning? You're kidding."
"Nope. Six am, bright and early."
Eden can't help but feel a flutter of excitement as she imagines meeting Spider-Man in person. The thought of a handsome, charming vigilante swinging through the city is undeniably intriguing.
