EDEN'S head swam with a thousand thoughts as she tried to process everything Peter had said. She felt her chest tighten as she replayed the moment he almost confessed his feelings for her. Was he really in love with her, or was it just a slip of the tongue? She sunk her head into her chest, her heart pounding in her ears as she struggled to make sense of her emotions. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the world for a moment, but Peter's voice cut through the silence.
"There's one other thing you should know," he said, his voice quivering slightly.
Eden looked up, her face a mixture of disbelief and apprehension. "There's more?" she asked, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. She couldn't believe there was anything left to reveal.
Peter's eyes were serious and sincere, and Eden could hear the breeze as she waited for him to continue. She knew that whatever he had left to say would change everything.
"I think you fell in love with me, too."
Eden stared at Peter, her heart hammering in her chest. She wanted to deny his words, to push him away and run back to the safety of what she knew. But deep down, she knew he was right. There was something between, a spark that had been smoldering since the day they met.
"I..I don't know what to say," she stammered, her voice cracking with emotion. "It's just that...we barely know each other, How can you be so sure?"
Peter rose from his seat and came to stand in front of Eden, his gaze soft and understanding. "I know that hearing those stories about us stirred something in you. I could see the recognition in your eyes," he said gently.
Eden's breath caught in her throat as she realized he was right. She had felt a deep connection to those memories, even if she couldn't quite recall them. "I...I don't know what to make of it," she whispered, feeling her heart race again.
"That's okay," Peter replied, reaching out to take her hand. "You don't have to figure it out right now. I just want you to know that I'll be right here waiting for you at the end."
Eden looked up and into his eyes, feeling her heart melt at his tenderness and understanding.
Peter turned and walked towards the window, where he had entered earlier. He didn't look back as he climbed onto the firescape, the night air cool against his face. With a silent oath to return the next day, he launched himself into the darkness, his web-shooters firing him away from MJ's apartment.
