Briley. The next morning the guys woke me up early, telling me the game plan for today.
Michael would be in meetings all day with other surgeons over my hand.
Calum had patients today, but was planning on staying with me as much as possible.
Michael and Luke planned to spend the day with Ben, if he didn't choose to stay with me, because we were finally getting the option to be together now that his mental state was seeming to lighten up.I got ready for the day, showering and changing into clothes that a police officer had brought me from my house.
Not my favorite options, but better than the hospital gown.
I put on socks, glancing to the couch that Calum slept on last night
"Best couches in the state" ran through my head, so of course I sat on it.
I wanted to know what the best couch in the state felt like.
I was immediately disappointed, feeling the cold, rock hard surface.
I laid down, wondering if maybe it was more comfortable for sleeping and that's when I realized
He lied to me so that I couldn't complain about him sleeping on the couch.
I immediately walked out of my room, seeing Ashton laughing lightly with a nurse before he looked to me.
"Morning angel" he smiled, turning away from the nurse and moving to me.
"You didn't have to stop your conversation." I told him, seeing him immediately shrug
"We weren't talking about anything important, I'd rather rewrap your hand" he smiled.
I sat criss cross on the bed as the grabbed a few supplies, moving to me.
He pulled a chair in front of me, slowly unwrapping my hand, making me look away- I found it disgusting.
"Excited to see your brother?" he tried to distract me.
"Yeah" I responded quietly.
"He seeming okay?" I asked quietly.
"Yeah, he's much better than when he first came in, Calum has been making little visits with him so he's warming up to Calum as well, but I think he really likes Luke" he told me quietly.
"Good, I'm just glad he's talking to you guys." I told him, seeing him nod slowly.
I noticed he wasn't wrapping it back exactly, instead he did something on his phone before covering my hand with a towel, holding my hand gently in his own as he seemed to wait.
"Everything okay?" I asked him, looking to him once I knew my hand was covered.
"Yeah- I just think you've developed a little infection" he spoke calmly.
"But I'm taking antibiotics to prevent-" "dont panic" he interrupted my immediate panic, calmness in his eyes, which made me feel better.
"I don't think it's bad at all, it's very early, which is good. We might just need to give you some stronger meds through an IV to help prevent it until we can get you to surgery."
So I didn't panic.
He continued to change the subject for me as he held my hand calmly.
"Have they found my dad yet?" I asked as we waited, seeing his eyes meet my own.
"No, they haven't. They have a few different leads, though." He told me quietly, making me nod.
"They'll get him" I nodded, watching him nod with the smallest smile to me.
"Do you want to talk about anything? Calum told me that you haven't really talked about anything since you told what needed to be told." He spoke.
I wanted to talk about everything.
But I didn't know how to do it without losing my composure.
So I was okay not talking until I knew how to handle it.
"I'm okay" I told him just as Michael and Calum walked in together.
"Hi angel" Calum immediately smiled as he moved beside me, immediately placing his hands on my shoulders, rubbing gently.
Ashton quietly spoke to Michael as Calum clearly tried to distract me from the conversation.
I immediately interrupted whatever Calum was trying to tell me with the one thing that had been bothering me
"You told me the couch was comfortable but I laid on it this morning and you are a total liar-" "you wouldn't have went to sleep if I told you it was uncomfortable" he laughed at my anger, immediately making me roll my eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me" he laughed, managing to pull me into the best hug that he could due to the angles we were sitting at.
"It's too late-" michael cut my sentence off when I felt him bending my fingers gently.
"Is that the first thing you felt?" He asked me calmly, making me nod.
He exhaled, immediately getting on his phone for a solid minute.
"Okay- do you guys mind wrapping her back up and starting an IV for me? I'm going to go into the meeting, I think we will most likely move her surgery up to tomorrow morning." He spoke firmly, making Ashton and Calum agree in various ways before he left.
"Tomorrow morning ?" I spoke quietly as Ashton started rewrapping my hand and Calum grabbed the supplies for an IV.
"Yeah, a little sooner than what we thought, but that's nothing" Ashton spoke, sending me a small wink.
"It just makes me nervous" I told him honestly, seeing him nod.
"Understandably so. But don't stress until we have for sure answers. Michael will be back in less than an hour with an official game plan and that's when we will all sit down with you and tell you all the details and answer any details that you need." Ashton responded to me, taping the wrap he put on my hand down before smiling to me
"Okay, I trust you guys"
