Jealousy Kills || James Potter

Year 5, Chapter 5

Sirius was worried.

Lily was worried.

Marlene was worried.

Remus was worried.

Peter was worried.

Everyone who knew about James Potter's and Odetta Lynch's relationship were worried.

Even some of the professors were worried.

The two had been "dating" for almost a year now, as they began in January. The plan hadn't worked out how they wanted. Lily wasn't jealous, she was rather the opposite. She was overjoyed for her friend, and finally getting James off of her back.

It was usually her who was giving Odetta the most compliments about her relationship with James.

"Oh you two are so cute together"

"You guys are the perfect pair"

"You seem so happy with him Odetta, I'm happy for you"

and more.

And Odetta was mad. She'd wasted almost a year on this stupid plan that wasn't even working.

Lily continued to date Gideon Prewett, not even showing an ounce of jealousy.

After admitting her feelings, she didn't want to do the plan anymore.

She knew if she did, she would just continue to be more and more heartbroken as they went.

So what did she do?

She broke up with him.

So that was step 3 of the plan.

Except their excuse wasn't "We lost our spark." She'd simply said that she didn't want to be with him anymore.

Their friends were really confused as to why. Odetta looked red faced, puffy eyed, and tear stricken when she told her friends.

They all hugged her, and comforted her, because they all thought she was sad about the breakup.

If only they knew it was really almost the opposite.

She was sad because she knew they couldn't be together.

James looked out of it when he told the boys. They all gave him a hug, though, and he was too, sad about the breakup.

But he didn't even know if he still wanted to date her or not. 

Over the weeks of their "breakup" it was filled with the two being fairly awkward to each other.

James was stuck between his feelings for Lily, and the feelings he pushed away for Odetta. There's no way he could truly like her.. right? I mean after all they'd been enemies since they were just children. Why would that change to suddenly.

Odetta was stuck between her feelings for James, and her internal battles. It was her heart that longed for him, but her head that told her no.

Her head told her that he'll always love Lily, no matter what she did, or didn't do. Even if he liked her, he would forever love Lily.

Her heart told her to just try it. That they were just 16, and you can't get heartbroken at 16 right? You only get sad about rejection is all.

Her heart longed for him no matter what, but it was her mind that was filled with doubt.

One person, though, whose mood had gradually increased since the two's breakup, was Sirius's.

He started hanging around Odetta more, and whenever the two were with all of their friends, the Marauders and the girls, Odetta could always see Remus giving Sirius longing looks. As if he wanted to be the one Sirius was putting all of his interest in.
