Chapter 17

I got sent into this new section that I hadn't explored yet. There was a 'reception' bit at the front where you had someone at a counter that clearly had some control over the place. Sam walked me over to this place and then left me to my own devices.

The person at the counter gave me this uniform and signalled me to make my way through these double doors.

When I made my way through the bege doors, there was a very long corridor that had a grey carpet that was sort of fluffy and a very strong red wall. On the right, you had two separate doors where there was a sign for a girls room and another door but for the boys.

I opened the cold, grimy door and there led to a changing room for the purpose of me to change into my uniform.

On the left, there were toilets. When you walked in there, the odour of pee invaded the room. You had a couple of mirrors by the white sink that were dirty and cracked a little.

I picked the middle sink out of the three and looked up and stared myself in the eyes.

Is this really how my life turned out to be? What did I do to deserve this? If there is a God, he must really hate me. Clearly, he has a favourite sibling. I am vulnerable. I just have to trust these people or otherwise I'm even more screwed than I was before.

The toilets were also black and the floors were made from smooth concrete while the walls were tiled.

In the other half of the room, the carpet from the corridor continued and the walls were painted grey but it didn't stand out very much. There were also lockers and numerous benches in the room.

The man from the counter waited for me outside and then when I came out, he took me through another set of double doors and took me to another door on the left which looked like a briefing room.

It was also painted grey and you had numerous chairs in there that were black and there was a projector that played a video of everything I needed to know.

While that was happening, the man turned off the light in the room and left me to be on my own.

At the end of the briefing, the video asked me many questions which forced me to answer them.

"Let's review what we have just learnt. What happens if you enter a multiverse which has a copy of yourself?" asked the video.

"Very bad things." I said.

"Come on John!" said the video.

I didn't expect that response. I just thought that someone was watching me on a camera or something. But the actual video responded.

To my shock, I finally opened my mouth which felt clamped together and finally breathed a word.

"You can't make it and die. Like I said, a very bad thing happens." I said.

"That's right!" it said.

"Can you actually hear me? Are you recording? Or are you alive?" I ask.

"Eh, I can't answer that." it said.

"Of course you can't." I say.

Eventually, Sam comes crashing through the door and turns on the light in the room.

"Let there be light! How did your training go?" he asked.

"Ah yeah." I responded.

Sam's little phone thing went off and he reached into his pocket and opened what seemed to be a message.

"Ugh, sorry I have to take this. But make your way down to the cafeteria." he said.

"Sam! Where is the cafeteria?" I asked but, I couldn't even finish the sentence and he was already out of the room.
