With a sigh, you walked around the park, all alone. This wasn't out of the ordinary for you, despite how young you were. Your parents needed alone time, so they would go to a bar, or a hotel, or whatever, and leave you by yourself at a playground or park.
However, you felt like you were getting a little too old for this. You were twelve! Practically a teenager! You didn't need to spend your time at some stupid playground.
You should go to the movies, an arcade, or an amusement park! Not some dumb place where all the little kids and babies hang out.
There was a bit of an upside, though. When you left the park, you could see the nice apartments and neighborhoods around you. They were nice, much nicer than the cramped places you lived in with your parents.
You loved seeing this part of the city. It was elegant, luxurious, beautiful, and peaceful. No constant chaos of beeping horns or trains or busses. No horrible smells of exhaust or pollution. Just calm and pretty.
It was also the spring, meaning the cherry blossoms had bloomed, giving you an even more beautiful sight of the place.
You wandered over to a bridge, finding a small creek underneath it. Sitting down, you hung your legs over the bridge, staring down at the clear water underneath you. You watched as the petals fell onto the water, resting on it softly.
The sun was setting, the sherbet colored sky reflecting onto the water. You sighed at the sight, laying back on the bridge.
Suddenly, you heard the soft patter of footsteps, making you realize you weren't alone. "Hello?"
There were more footsteps, making you realize that they were coming from underneath you. You shifted your body around, ducking your head under, you spotted someone.
It was a boy. He was around your age, with white hair and bright blue eyes, sitting under the bridge and crying.
"Are you okay?" You asked, immediately wanting to comfort the stranger. You maneuvered yourself down, jumping into the creek, and walking over to the boy.
"Leave me alone." He snapped, making you stop where you were standing. It was clear he didn't want your help, so, you started to turn away.
"I'm sorry. I just thought- when I'm sad, I liked to be comforted, but I'll go. Sorry." You murmured, walking off.
"Wait." The boy called, stopping you, once again. He brushed away his tears, sighing shakily. "You- you can stay."
"Okay." You took a seat on the opposite side of the creek, right across from him. He pushed away his tears, glancing back over at you.
"Do you want to talk about it?" You asked. He shook his head no. "Okay, that's fine."
"What's your name? Mine is (y/n)." You introduced yourself.
"Toya." Is all he mumbled in response. "Well, Toya, want to get out of here?"
You watched as the broken look on his face changed to one of mischief and excitement, a small smirk crossing his lips. "Sure."
--
Now here you and Toya sat, outside the convenience store, binging on candy and junk food, and sipping your slushees. You used up all the money your parents gave you, but you didn't care. All you cared about was how much fun you were having with your new friend.
You don't know much about him. In fact, the only thing he told you was his name, but you still had fun. He was funny, and energetic, and playful, and you liked him. You liked him a lot. You could tell he liked you a lot too.
"So, what do you want to do next?" He asked. It was dark out, cars and people zooming by."Oh, actually, I think I might have to go. It's getting late, and my parents will get worried if I'm out for too long." You admitted.
"You don't have to stay with your parents. We could run away together and live on our own. We could be free." He remarked, making you giggle. Little did you know how serious he was being.
"That would be fun, but I can't. I love my parents and I can't leave them." You confessed. "But I did have a lot of fun with you, tonight, Toya."He frowned. He wanted to spend more time with you. He needed to spend more time with you. No one had been so kind to him. Even though you just met, it felt like you knew him, like you understood him and what he was going through.
In the just a couple of hours of knowing you, he had already fallen for you.
"When will I see you again?" He asked, feeling frantic and desperate. "I don't know. But uh, here."
You grabbed a wrapper scribbling down something on it. "I don't have a phone, but here's my email. I mostly use it for school, but you can contact me through it too."
Suddenly, a man came charging over to you. "(Y/n)! There you are. Jesus, do you know how worried your mother and I have been? Why didn't you stay in the park?"
"Sorry, Daddy. I made a new friend and I-" You gestured to Toya, but your father grabbed your arm, dragging you away before you could continue.
"You're in big trouble, (y/n)." He growled. You know you should be upset, and you should be scared. But you couldn't help but feel happy.
Looking over your shoulder, you saw Toya still standing there, watching you leave. You waved a goodbye, calling out to him. He waved back.
You were going to miss your new friend. He was going to miss you too.
--
"What are you doing?" Dabi asked, making you drop the box in your hands. You walked backwards, a panicked look on your face. You felt like a deer in headlights, unsure what to do or say.
He sighed softly. He knew this day would come. Before you could move or run, he stopped you, grabbing you by your throat. He didn't strangle you too hard, just hard enough to knock you unconscious.
You passed out in his hands, becoming his, once and for all.
