"What the hell are you doing here?!", Zoey exclaimed in anger and shock.
"I could say the same thing for you, Miss Smith, why would you walk through these dangerous alleys and how do you know how to fight?", Alex asked calmly as he made his way to Zoey, which made her back up a little.
"Did they hurt you?", Alex asked as his expression softened up.
"N-no...I didn't give them a chance to fight back...", Zoey said as her voice sounded like a whisper now.
Alex gently took her hand in his as he gently ran his thumb over her bruised knuckles.
"You didn't deserve that, come with me. I'll take care of it.", he stated as he dragged her along.
"No, I need to go home, I need to do something important. I'm okay, it's okay.", Zoey said softly as she gently pulled away.
"Why can't you trust me or give me a chance, Zoe...? I know...the way I treated you was bad but I won't-"
"No...Stop...I need to go home. I don't want to mix work with personal matters. A....a-and you don't get to call me Zoe!!!", Zoey exclaimed and burst out into tears, running away.
Alex pinched the bridge of his nose and ran a hand through his hair.
"It just came out naturally...", he muttered under his breath.
Alex walked back to the car as Mac waited outside for him, he opened the door for Alex, and after Alex sat in Mac closed the door and walked to the driver's seat.
"Did you find what you were looking for sir?", Mac asked.
"Yeah, something off about her....especially her thoughts about me. I can't tell whether she's delusional or she's erased my memories.", Alex said as he huffed out.
"I found something interesting about her, I looked into her like you've asked me to.", Mac stated as he handed the files to Alex.
Alex's eyes opened widely as he saw a picture of him and Zoey kissing.
"Mac. What the hell is this?", Alex asked as he clenched his jaws.
"This picture was five months ago.", Mac stated.
"It doesn't make sense. Make sure no one sees this photograph.", Alex said.
He threw it on the seat beside him and looked out the window, but he looked back at the photograph and picked it up again. Alex ran his finger over Zoey's picture.
"Arthur is too quiet...also check on what he's up to. We can't put anything past him.", Alex stated.
.
.
.
Zoey closed her room door and fell on her bed after changing.
"Argh...stop being so emotional about Alex...He's safe and alive!", Zoey said, scolding herself.
Zoey opened a wooden box that she kept under her bed. She picked up a photo that she found of her kissing Alex and laughed softly.
{ "When are you going to take the picture Zoey?", Alex asked as he kissed her ear.
"Just as soon as you stop worrying me!", Zoey exclaimed as she tried to push Alex away a bit but he didn't budge. "Alex!", she groaned in annoyance.
Alex pushed her down on the bed and pinned her down, Zoey looked at him and smiled warmly. Alex leaned in slowly and kissed her lips softly and broke it off before she could react, teasing her. Zoey pouted. She wrapped her arms around his neck and rolled over causing her to be on top of him. Zoey kissed him fast and deeply before he could react.
"And...picture taken.", Zoey stated as she winked at Alex causing him to laugh and wrap his arms around her waist.
"And...I don't know what I'd do without you, Zoe.", He stated as he pulled her down and snuggled with her.}
Zoey wiped her eyes quickly as the tears fell down and she tried to push the memory of how the photo was taken. She stared at the floor for a moment until she burst out into silent tears and held her hand by her mouth to muffle her cries.
"I don't know if I'll be able to do this Alex...I don't know if I can...It's breaking me that you can't remember the precious memories we've held together...", she muttered under her breath.
Just then, something shiny caught her attention, she quickly gathered herself together and wiped away her tears and she picked up the shiny rectangular box. Zoey furrowed her eyebrows in confusion because she didn't remember placing it there, but her eyes widened in shock as she remembered she saw Damien with this box before he left.
"Damien!", she exclaimed as she opened the box.
Zoey opened the box to find a note in it.
'Hey Zoey, if you're reading this note right now, that means you've passed obstacle one, so congratulations! If you look closely inside the box, you will see a small thread that is sticking up, pull it. There will be a key there, you will have to take a holiday, even though it might be too early since Alex will get suspicious, just tell him that you have to go away for a while to take care of a sick family member and play pathetic! Even though he won't remember you, he'd still fall for it like always, trust me. Go back to the island that we hid on. On the island, I left something for you under your bed. This is all I can say, for now, I can't give out too much information. Take care!'
Zoey put the letter aside and looked at the box carefully, but she couldn't seem to find the thread. She pulled her phone from the bed and put the torch on to check for the thread and she found it. She pulled it gently and slowly to find a big silver key.
"What the hell...?", Zoey muttered under her breath.
The next day
Zoey wore beige leggings with a black turtle neck top, she decided to leave her hair open and to keep her makeup minimum as always.
Zoey knocked on the door gently with the files that Alex had asked her to bring.
"Come in.", Alex's deep voice called to her.
Zoey took in a deep breath to try and ease her nervousness before entering his office. She looked at him to see he was busy with the paperwork on his desk.
"Here are the files sir.", she stated as she left the files on his desk.
But she got no response. He was buried in his work.
"Mr. Griffin...",Zoey's voice trailed and she cleared her throat. "My family member is sick..."
"Okay, so what does that have to do with me? ", he said finally lifting his head to look at her with his glasses on.
Zoey could feel her face starting to burn up, she never saw him with glasses often, but whenever she did, he would take them off immediately because he felt embarrassed even though she tried to tell him that he looked sexy.
"I-"
"Mr. Griffin.", a familiar voice made Zoey's eyes widen in shock and caused her to turn around.
"Zoey.", Alex called her, causing her to pull her focus back to Alex who was now standing. "I would like for you to meet someone, Damien."
"Hello miss.", Damien said.
"Hello Damien...", Zoey's voice trailed off as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion but she quickly gathered her composure.
"Oh yeah, what did you want to tell me Zoey?", Alex asked as he took a sip of the coffee Zoey made for him.
Damien clenched his jaws and looked at her intensely but not enough to make sure Alex wouldn't see it.
"I have nothing to say, sir. If you don't need anything else, I'll get working.", Zoey said before she could leave.
