The Gotham Cafe

I slept more comfortably that night and was disappointed when I was awoken by Robin knocking on my door. I glanced at my watch that I had put on my nightstand, and saw that it was six thirty, earlier than when I was woken up the day before. I got out of bed and opened the door slightly.

"Why is it earlier?" I asked the Boy Wonder.

"Well you see," Robin explained, "There's this crazy thing called time and-"

"Very funny Bird Boy. But really, why?" I laughed quietly.

"We've got school. And I'm supposed to walk you to the cafe you're meeting the tutor at," he said, then added, "Batman's precautions."

"You want to check to see if she's a criminal?" I joked. And ironically, my 'tutor' was a criminal.

"You never know," Robin smirked. After a moment of silence, I shut the door and heard his feet moving as he walked to the gym. I quickly got ready then headed to the gym. I was surprised to see M'gann standing alongside Robin.

"As you know," Robin started, "I don't have powers. So I brought in a professional."

"Hey Alex," M'gann greeted, "I'm not sure how big of a help I will be though."

"It's fine," I reassured the underconfident martian.

"Try to mimic her powers," Robin instructed. I walked over to M'gann and tapped her on the shoulder. I felt a rush of power, and a sudden urge to try flying. I'd never flown before.

"Then try flying, if you really want to," Robin smirked.

"We heard you think that," M'gann informed me.

"Really?" I asked, suddenly frantic.

"So you don't have full control over the powers you get," Robin thought out loud. He then took a bird-a-rang out of his utility belt. "Try to levitate this."

I nodded, then focused on the weapon. Rise, rise, rise, I chanted in my head. The bird-a-rang began to rise, but I found my powers depleting.

"M'gann is very powerful," I said, "I get a watered down version of her powers which are, may I say, harder to control than super strength or speed."

"Do you know what would happen if you mimicked Zatanna?" M'gann asked.

"I'd have an affinity for magic. But I'd still have to study spells and practice them," I said.

"How did you discover your powers, and learn so much about them?" Robin asked.

"I got mugged by some thug with powers. Low-life. I defended myself, and when I punched him I discovered that I was somehow much stronger," I lied, "Then I began looking for people with powers. Only found a few people but I learned a bit about my powers."

"Cool," Robin smirked, then checked his wrist computer. "God we gotta go,  Alex, we're almost late!"

"I should be getting ready for school soon too," M'gann said, "Bye guys!"

"Wait for me by the Zeta Tube?" Robin requested. I quickly went and waited for a minute or two. Robin came in dressed in his civvies- a red hoodie, jeans, and sunglasses- and we both transported to Gotham.

I looked around the run down alley we had transported to.

"The cafe is down a block-" I started.

"To the right, I know," Robin said, "I know Gotham like the back of my hand."

"You were born here too?" I asked, trying to get information.

"No," Robin said vaguely, then started to lead me to the cafe.
