It's no surprise I had trouble sleeping that night. I tossed and turned and got no rest. When I heard soft knocking on the door, I groaned.

"Come in," I said tiredly. Miss Martian peeked her head in through the door.

"When you're ready can you come out to the main room?" she asked. I nodded, and she quietly shut the door behind her and walked away. When I looked around the room, I realized I had nothing to wear. Besides, of course, what I was wearing yesterday, which I had also slept in. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. Of course, I thought, and groaned. My hair was a huge mess.  And if regular bed head wasn't bad enough, my hair is naturally curly, so my hair is even worse in the morning. I braided my hair and hoped I looked presentable. I needed to impress the team, and showing up looking like someone who has lived in the woods for years was not the way to do that. I walked out the door and silently shut it. I began walking to the main room. When I got there, I saw the team crowding around Black Canary. The team's backs were turned to me, but Canary saw me the second I walked into the room. She stopped what she had been saying. Canary walked over to me, and put out her hand for me to shake it.

"Hi, I'm Black Canary," she said. I nodded and shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you," I replied politely.

"Do you mind if we see what you can do?" Canary asked, gesturing to the team. Finally, a chance to prove myself. They wanted to see if I could fight. Little did they know I was trained by my uncle, who is a deadly assassin. I nodded, trying to hold in my eagerness to fight. Black Canary pointed to Robin, who walked up to us. Canary took a step back, giving us some space to fight.

"How do we win?" I asked, "Does the other person have to yell mercy, or do I just pin him down?"

"Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself?" Robin asked, smiling slightly. I threw a punch at him, which he dodged a second before it would have made contact. Robin grabbed my arm and flipped me. However, I landed on my feet. I crouched down and tried to kick his feet out from under him, but he jumped. I sprung back up and attacked the Boy Wonder with a volley of punches. He dodged less than half of them, but he recovered quickly. I attempted to kick Robin in the stomach, but he grabbed my foot. I leaned forward, and then used his hands as a cup and jumped upwards. I went over his head and landed behind him. I kicked him in the back, and he fell over. Thinking I had won, I smirked valiantly. But, the world likes proving me wrong, and Robin turned his fall into some sort of a cartwheel and landed on his feet perfectly. He crouched down, and with my guard down, he easily kicked my feet out from under me. I hit the ground with a loud thud. When I looked up, I expected to see everyone laughing at me and telling me how stupid and horrible I was, but instead, I saw Robin holding his hand out to me.

"Good fight," he said smiling. I took his hand, and he pulled me to my feet.

"That was a perfect landing. How did you do that?" I asked.

"Practice," he answered, "And your landing was pretty perfect too."

"Thanks," I said. Part of me was shocked. I wasn't used to praise. 'Perfect' was not the word usually used to describe me or anything I did. 'A  failure' and 'a huge disappointment' were the words I was used to.

"That was a good fight," Black Canary said, "Where did you learn to fight like that?"

"Oh, I did karate and gymnastics," I said dismissively.

"Well, if you want it, a spot on the team is all yours," Canary said.

"Really?" I asked, not even trying to hide my excitement.

"I guess that's a yes!" Miss Martian said happily. I smiled at her. I mean, she seemed too peppy for my taste, but she was nice.

"I would be honored to join," I said, smiling hugely. I can't believe I'm already in.
