Within the next hour, everyone on the Team was milling about the main room in their costumes. Everyone except for Kaldur, who insisted on not wearing one.
"I haven't a clue of what I would wear," the Atlantean said.
"Well you're no fun," Wally murmured like a child, jokingly. I rolled my eyes with a smirk and focused on the other team members.
Artemis was dressed as some character named Katniss Everdeen, though I had never heard the strange name before. I only knew the character was archery related, due to the Artemis' bow and quiver that went along with the outfit. Zatanna had also chosen to be a fictional character, and like Artemis, her character shared her own powers and abilities. The magician was dressed in robes, and she held a wand at the ready. She claimed to be Hermione Granger, a famous witch of sorts.
Rocket had chosen to go as something I could understand, and her black hair was in an Afro while she wore colorful and somewhat ugly clothes. The teen rolled around in skates. Rocket said her costume was disco, which was both an era of sorts and a type of music. M'gann was an amazing ghost, even though her costume consisted of ripped up civvies that were a white transparent color, almost the same color as she had made her skin. She looked extremely real.
Superboy put very little effort into his outfit, as he was simply in his civvies with toilet paper wrapped around him in various places. Robin even told me that the teen went as a mummy last year too. I guess his costume portrayed his brooding and somewhat uncaring attitude
"Where is everyone?" M'gann worried out loud.
"Don't worry," Zatanna told the Martian, "The party hasn't even technically started yet."
As if on cue, the computer announced the arrival of none other than the Dark Knight himself, who showed up a short moment after the computer spoke. A little disappointing, but not really shocking, the Caped Crusader showed up as himself. Most of us laughed or cracked a grin at his lack of creativity.
"What are you supposed to be?" Robin called out jokingly to his mentor. Batman gave his protege a semi cold glare.
"I'm Batman," the man said stiffly, which made all of us burst out in laughter. I even thought I caught a hint of a smirk on his lips. Does the Bat have a soft side? I thought teasingly. In a few seconds, we all started chatting again, and after roughly ten minutes, almost everyone was there.
Everyone's mentors were there, along with a few other League members, such as Black Canary, Red Tornado, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel. Apparently, Zatanna's father was her mentor, and he was absent, which is all anyone would tell me on that matter. So instead of Zatara, there was Doctor Fate. Zatanna seemed a bit emotional around the man, and I caught Robin and Artemis sending the girl concerned looks. But Zatanna quickly brushed them away. What happened between her and Fate?
"I can't believe he's not here," Wally grumbled in annoyance, snapping me out of my thoughts. Wally, Robin, and I were hanging out around the cookies and candy.
"Who?" I asked, taking a sip of my delicious punch. I had my ninja mask pulled off my head so I could eat and drink, so my mask hung lifeless around my neck.
"Red Arrow," Robin told me, "We invited him."
"Are you really that surprised he isn't here?" I asked.
"We've been friends for like, four years now," Wally said. There was a moment of silence, broken by the Boy Wonder.
"Speaking of friends, we need to introduce you to people," Robin said with a smirk, grabbing my wrist lightly and leading me towards none other than the Trinity. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. All three of them were dressed in their normal superhero wear, which made them seem even more intimidating.
"Oh God no," I said quickly, partially terrified of meeting probably the three most powerful people I will ever know. "Not them."
"This is gonna be good," Wally snickered, pushing me towards them. Way too soon, I stood before the Dark Knight, the Man of Steel, and the Amazonian Princess. I figured they would be able to see right through me. The three, noticing my companions and me, stopped their conversation and turned towards us.
"Something wrong?" Batman asked.
"Nope," Wally could barely contain his laughter at my mortified expression.
"Just wanted to introduce Superman and Wonder Woman to our newest addition," Robin grinned at them.
"I'm Alex," I said, trying to sound confident. I think it worked because I was greeted by friendly smiles from the two powerhouses of the League.
"Pleasure to meet you," Wonder Woman stuck her hand out and said politely. I quickly shook it, slightly alarmed by her incredibly strong grip.
"The pleasure's all mine," I replied.
"Nice to meet you too," Superman said, sticking his hand out. His grip seemed to almost break my hand it was so tight. My eyes widened slightly from the shock and little pain. "How's everything been so far?"
"It's an honor, and everything's good. Thanks for asking," I told the Man of Steel. He finally let go of my hand, which I dropped limply to my side.
"Quick, let's show her Tornado!" Wally said a bit too loudly and started to lead me away. I gave a weak wave to the Trinity as I was dragged away, Robin in tow. Tornado, who was talking with Black Canary, was not a man, but a machine. He was red with yellow stripes here and there, and he wore a blue cape. As we approached, Robin introduced us.
"Hey Canary," Boy Wonder said before he started, "Alex, this is Red Tornado. Tornado, this is Alex."
"Greetings," the robot said. I nodded in greeting.
"Hi," I said to the towering hunk of metal.
"Tornado used to be our den mother," Wally told me, "But now that we're older we don't really need one."
"Oh, cool," I said, not very interested, but thinking that it would be rude to show that.
We all talked for a bit until Wally and Robin decided to introduce me to the next League member, Green Arrow. The archer was talking with his protege, Artemis, which made me feel less nervous about meeting the famous hero. Our encounter was pleasant enough, but it was long until I was spirited away to the next person, Captain Marvel, who was nice if a bit childish. Icon, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Aquaman, and Doctor Fate were all polite, and Flash was probably one of the most laid back League members I had met all night. A bit after meeting Fate, I had a question for my friends.
"What's the deal with Zatanna and Fate?" I asked.
"He's possessing her father's body," Wally said icily.
"What?" I snapped in shock. Robin sighed and told me the story of how Zatara gave himself up for his daughter. "Oh my gosh," I muttered.
"You should read the mission files," Robin told me, "They've got a lot of stories on them."
"Will do," I said vaguely.
There's still so much I don't know about my friends.
Still so much I don't know about my targets.
